I go through them in BULK during the summer months!
Panty liners are such a “natural” part of my kit that I have never given any thought to hiding them in a nondescript area. They aren’t embarrassing, they are just another tool I use. Sitting there in plain sight mingling with the safety pins, clips, tape, scissors and other stylist necessities.
I was on a shoot last week unpacking my kit when a model saw my ginormous stash of panty liners and said “Oh expecting a heavy flow?”
Um no. Imagine my face.
This awkward conversation inspired me to share with you another of my Stylist’s Secret Tricks: Panty Liners.
A Fashion Stylist uses panty liners for pretty much everything EXCEPT their intended purpose!
They are a super versatile and inexpensive tool that we use to solve tons of “on the spot” emergencies and are the perfect way to solve some of your own wardrobe crises!
Re-purposing Panty Liners
- Inside swimwear and lingerie on photoshoots. The pieces we shoot are samples sent from designers and pr firms. These pieces are shot on models all over the world. Stylist’s place a panty liner inside the garment to protect the garment AND the model. To paint a vivid picture- model after model wearing the same intimate item- the panty liner provides a layer of protection.
- Armpits. Shooting under hot lights can create alot of sweat. Stylist’s use panty liners inside model’s dress shirts, jackets, etc. as a barrier to absorb sweat and prevent “ring around the armpit”. I usually cut them in half then stick them to the inside of the shirt.

- Camelflage. Sometimes tight leggings or athletic gear can climb into places that the camera doesn’t want it to go. One of the most effective ways of camouflaging camel-toe is with a panty liner. Instead of placing it in the usual spot cut the liner in half, turn it on its side and make sure it sits across the anatomy in question like a Band-Aid. The liner will create a smooth barrier between you and your pants.
- Shoe Sizing. Shoes feeling a bit too big? One foot bigger than the other? A quick fix is to place a panty liner on the insole. It takes up just enough space to help tighten up the fit of the shoe. Use two if neccessary.

- Sweaty Feet. Our feet sweat, especially when we have them on for extended periods of time. Place a panty liner on the insole and let it do it’s job: Absorb. I have found that the “thong” style panty liners work best for this but you can use the regular size as well.
What do you think? Will a panty liner solve some of your Fashion emergencies?
It’s time to introduce you to another one of my Stylist’s secret tricks.
As women I think we are genetically programmed to love shoes. We covet all styles from flats to skyscraper-esc heels but sometimes our shoes don’t love us back.
Summer is an especially tough time on our feet. We wear sandals, ballet flats, wedges and strappy heels that lay against our bare skin while its hot & sweaty outside which results in ALOT of rubbing. Ouch!
Stylists use a simple trick that we borrowed from athletes and incorporated into our bag of tricks to prevent rubbing and blisters: Moleskin.

Moleskin is a heavy cotton flannel material with an adhesive backing that hikers and runners use to wrap up irritated or blistered parts of the foot. We stylists use it a little differently, as a preventative measure (I’d much rather PREVENT a blister or sore foot than treat one)!
You don’t have to go to some crazy online supply company to find it, moleskin is available at any drug store. I grabbed mine from Walgreens for $4.49
Applying it is super simple and will prevent tons of pain!
Trim the moleskin to the size you need, remove the adhesive back and stick it in place!
Yes, its that easy!

BONUS TIP: If you have some shoes that you are slipping around in apply the moleskin to the insole for a better grip!
What do you think? Will moleskin save your feet this summer?
There are two fashion rules every young girl is taught by her mother:
Never wear white after labor day and stay away from stripes.
Throw those rules out the window ladies, they are a completely outdated way of thinking about fashion.
Today’s approach is that wearing white into winter is super chic and stripes- when worn correctly- can play up your best assets and play down your trouble spots.
Yes, it’s ok to wear stripes. I know it’s scary but I’m here to help.
Fun, summery and oh so haute stripes are everywhere and running every which way this season. Whether you want to stripe it up vertically, horizontally or diagonally here are my tips on how to wear stripes.
Go vertical. Vertical stripes create the illusion of length. They are perfect for gals on the shorter side or for any area that you want to lengthen, slim or elongate.
Pay attention to the width and placement of stripes. Different stripe widths play a role in creating an optical illusion. If you have wide hips you don’t want to place wide horizontal stripes in that area, instead opt for a dress that has dark medium size vertical stripes to create the illusion of a thinner body. Quick rule of thumb- anywhere you want to enlarge place a horizontal stripe anywhere you want to thin or lengthen place a vertical stripe.
Horizontal stripes add width so they are perfect for creating the illusion of a larger bust or to create the illusion of curves on boyish figures.
Stay away from head to toe stripes. A striped top is better paired with a solid bottom and likewise a striped bottom is better with a solid top.
Still hearing your mother’s warnings echoing in your ears? Stripes still too scary? Try adding stripes in baby steps. Begin by adding them with accessories and you’ll be painting the town striped in no time!

Summer is officially here and with it comes BBQ’s, trips to the pool and the reinvention of a 1980s staple summer shoe, the Jelly.
Just about every top designer has included a jelly in their Summer collection this year from Valentino to Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch.
Why are they so hot? Well, not only are they super flexible- which makes them super comfortable- jelly’s are like the chameleon of summer shoes. You can play up your fun youthful side with glitter, neons and bold color or go sophisticated with dark or neutral colors and bejeweled styles.
Obviously I would love jellies, I love quirky things: Zooey Deschanel, metal lunchboxes, Doctor Who and what could be more quirky-cool than jelly sandals.
For me there is something super nostalgic, retro and all around summery about jellies!

My jelly obsession this summer is for the Australian brand Jelly Beans.
Not only are they fun, comfortable and ultra-cool Jelly Beans have an added summer bonus: they are slip resistant so you can safely and without worry wear these chic waterproof jelly’s to the beach, pool, water park or wherever!
Jelly Beans come in 1 style “the classic” which is available in a rainbow of colors. Each color has an adorable description about how and when to wear it that really sets the mood.
I am wearing “Lemons” from the Neon Collection here’s the skinny this shade:
“You smile at strangers and drink tea instead of coffee. When life hands you lemons, you wear them on your feet”.
So true Jelly Beans. So True.
