Dew Me: On the Go Humidification for your skin

Lets face it, our skin takes a lot of abuse. Whether its the dry heat of summer or the cold brutal air of winter our skin isn’t always at its best.

Not only does the outdoor weather wear on our skin, the indoor climates we are exposed to can do just as much damage!

Indoors- especially at work and in hotel rooms- the air has little to no moisture.  “As much as 60% of the human body is composed of water and the ideal humidity level is between 40% to 60%.  When the air around you is dry it will draw moisture from any available source, including your eyes, skin and lips!”  Hello leather-face!

When your skin gets dehydrated, your wrinkles are more noticeable and your skin tone takes on a sallow cast.

Humidifying your skin indoors (especially at night while you sleep) will help to keep your skin soft, smooth and comfortable plus you’ll find you need less concealer and foundation!  Ahhh Fresh Youthful skin!

I spoke with my favorite Esthetician Jaclyn Allen of Studio Salons about the benefits of humidification, “Humidifiers are great for your skin!   They reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, ease conditions such as eczema and psoriasis and they are perfect for people who experience headaches due to sinusitis, respiratory problems, menopause (reducing hot flashes and high temps), diabetes, itching, and can even benefit the health of your eyes. The eyes depend heavily on a certain amount of moisture to do such functions as lubrication on the different parts of the eye that give you your vision and the overall comfort of your eyes. The dry eye condition can happen when you are exposed too much to overly dry air. Symptoms such as your eyes having light sensitivity, eye pain, discoloration of your eyes, itching, and possibly even blurry vision. By using a humidifier you can keep from getting this condition in the first place.”

Traveling to different climates can wreak havoc on your skin.  Some of the worst environments for your skin are in hotel rooms and at work where there is recirculated air and hardly any humidity.

“How can I possibly control the humidity level in a hotel room or at work?” you may ask.  Air-o-Swiss has the solution!

The Air-o-Swiss Ultrasonic travel humidifier fits into any travel bag and ensures healthy humid air wherever you go!   Super easy to use- just attach a  plastic water bottle and plug it in!  (1 bottle will last through the night–don’t worry the unit automatically shuts off when out of water).

I can’t tell you how much I love this unit!  My career takes me to many locations and environments, most recently I headed to Atlantic City for a photo-shoot.  My Air-o-Swiss Travel humidifier kept my skin fresh and dewy even in the dry hotel air- and no weird “hotel room” dry throat or messy bloody nose in the mornings! I had to beat the models off with a stick–they all wanted to take my Air-o-Swiss to their rooms for the night!

If you are a traveler you have to get this product!  I love it, love it, love it!

Jaclyn says “Be sure to use distilled or demineralized water in your humidifier. Tap water has minerals that can create deposits inside your humidifier that promote bacteria.”

  1. This is SO important! Keeping skin hydrated is a must. I swear that the reason I have such good skin for my age is because I began sneaking my mothers moisturizer when I was twelve years old! Nowadays I can’t do without it, especially one with an spf of 15 or higher during the day. Thanks Christie!

  2. Hi, Christie!!! We depart for Japan and New Zealand tomorrow–and I’m going without a humidifier . I don’t like those expensive, bulky spray mist cans. Skin needs a little more lovin’ care than 2 seconds of spritz! When I travel, I like to dampen my skin and then, while it’s still moist, use a light moisturizer. I use mineral make up most of the time when I have long plane rides (always sunscreen!) , so the water can penetrate the paint job 🙂 Having such a convenient, lightweight humidifier would be a wonderful solution for hotel rooms, and I will definitely go on the website and take a peek. Thanks for all you do to keep us informed about the latest and best~! Ann

  3. I find drinking half my body weight (in oz) of water each day keeps my skin in its best condition! Less breakouts too!

  4. I drink 3 quarts of water a day, which gives me ample time in the bathroom to admire my dewy complexion. 😉 I never go out without sunscreen or to bed without moisturizer. And I try not to wash my face too many times a day, which can be drying.

  5. I totally agree with taking care of your skin. I have melanoma and if I hadn’t gone to the doctor I never would have known. So do yourself a favor and take a step further with your skin care and get checked.
My husband and I have been looking for a humidifier for our home but never realized there were portable ones for travel. That is great news – we are going to Europe for a month and could definately use one. Thanks for the info.

  6. A great product to help mositurize your skin is Fresh’s Creme Ancienne. Wear it at night and you wake up with solky soft skin!

  7. I pretty much use a humidifier every night, I keep it next to my bed. Love the travel ones, especially for dry hotel rooms when I travel.

  8. Love water. I drink tons of it every day and also sleep with a humidifier next to my bed. My other secrets are: use the oh so wonderful Clarisonic brush morning and night to keep my skin clean and ready to absorb the moisturizer I put on; use tons of sunscreen and are you ready for it…use Bio-oil. It really hydrates your skin and you can buy it at your local drugstore for under $10.

  9. What a cool little gadget! I drink water ALL day! Also, I eat a ton of water packed fruits for snacks and don’t use hot water on my face.

  10. This is perfect! I’ve never used a humidifier, but after reading this it all makes sense why my skin is always so dry when I travel. Personally I’ve been having to go the distance trying to combat this by using a few products I love. I always take Caudalie’s Eau de beaute with me and mist my face when ever I’m feeling slightly dry. Aside from drinking enough water I also make sure to exfoliate once a week and do a moisturizing mask to hydrate my skin. Hopefully adding a humidifier, esp this travel one, to my routine will make taking care of my skin that much easier! Thanks Christie for sharing!
