Falling for Chanel

VintageChanelJacket

Those of you that follow me on Social Media know that I have become totally and completely cray cray obsessed with all things Chanel.

I have been scouring the resale shops, web and estate sales in a frenzy to find even just one authentic vintage Chanel jacket and then it happened……

I discovered a “Where have you been all my life” website, TheRealReal.com

TheRealReal started small.  CEO Julie Wainwright started the business at her kitchen table. She was a one-woman show visiting consignor homes with a U-Haul gathering the best designer resale pieces. Today, TheRealReal is the premier site for online luxury consignment with over 600 employees and multiple locations across the United States that accept and ship product worldwide.  Shopping on TheReal is never a gamble, they ensure that every item on The RealReal is 100% the real thing, each piece is authenticated through their dedicated team of authentication experts, horologists and gemologists. They know exactly how to tell real from counterfeit, from the quality of the leather to the zipper manufacturer.

Shopping on TheRealReal is super easy- you can sort items to only show your size (both shoe and clothing).  I LOVE this feature because it keeps me from falling in love with something that will never fit me!  You can also favorite pieces and they will let you know if they go on sale!

I now own THREE Vintage Chanel jackets that I nabbed for an almost sinful steal thanks to TheRealReal and my collection is still growing.

Today I would like to introduce you to the first-  this perfect for Fall, makes me feel pumpkin-spice-tastic, GORGEOUS brown Chanel boucle jacket.

What is Boucle?

The word boucle means “to curl” in French. This refers to the yarn that designers use to make the pieces, which has a nubby, curly, and thick appearance. This gives boucle pieces their signature textured look.

Launched by Coco Chanel in the 1950’s, the first Chanel boucle jacket was a tweed design that the first lady of fashion paired with a wraparound skirt to create a stunning look nobody had ever seen. With buckle fastenings, the first boucle jacket featured buttons and pockets in order to simulate the look and design of a men’s jacket with a more feminine appearance.

Since then, many designers have imitated the original design of Chanel’s now-iconic piece, and over the years, the boucle jacket has evolved into a more modern design. Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s head designer, comes up with a new boucle style every season, keeping the now legendary jacket fresh and on-trend.

I am in LOVE with this piece.  So beautiful- seriously look at those buttons!

..and it’s the perfect length.  It lands just at the hip which helps to balance the look.

I wanted to keep the look casual and street savvy so I paired the jacket with a lace Nanette Lepore blouse, HUDSON jeans, a TOPSHOP velvet neck tie, Alexander McQueen tote, ETRO sunnies and these so-on-trend Donald J Pliner GEA Patent leather oxfords.

Stylists Tip: If you are planning on purchasing Vintage or Consignment Chanel, stop into a Chanel retailer and try on a few pieces so that you know your exact size first.  Also keep in mind that Chanel has enough room in the seams to be let out one full size- so if you fall in love with a piece that’s a tad too tight you can always have it let out.

These timeless jackets seriously style themselves.  You can pair them with jeans like I have done, layer them over a dress or even create a more business chic look by pairing with a pencil skirt and blouse.

A must-have for this Fall and beyond!
