Mixing Things Up

One of the talents of a stylist is the ability to combine the unexpected.

Pairing pieces that you would normally never put together and making it look effortless.

Unexpected pairings are also the magic recipe for looking chic on the daily.

You may see some of these pairings on Instagram and think to yourself “That’s gorgeous but I wouldn’t even know where to start”.  Well, I’m going to share a stylist’s secret with you, the key to creating a memorable outfit is to take a cool-casual piece and mix it with an on-trend dressier piece.  Seriously, it’s that simple.

It’s all too easy to slip into the usual routine of combining the same old things that are in your comfort zone.  A t-shirt with jeans, heels with a dress, sparkles strictly for evening or all black with well..all black.

It’s time to jump out of your comfort zone and try styling pieces from opposite ends of the spectrum because hey, opposites attract right?

Each item’s “it factor” helps to compliment yet contrast the other creating visual interest.

Jeans with heels- oh yes

Dresses with sneakers- super chic

Sparkles in the day- heck yaas!

The Lela Rose ruched fitted sheath I’m wearing, although gorgeous and sophisticated can look straight out of the boardroom.  By pairing it with a denim jacket, funky leopard heels, a sparkly stack of bracelets and an edgy Burberry Statement bag the dress transforms into something completely cool, memorable and everyday wearable.

Here’s a challenge: Try it out, create at least one unexpected pairing this week.   Post a pic on Instagram and TAG me I’d love to see what you create!

Stylist Tip:  Enamel pins are the microtrend of the moment.  They are a fun but chic way to customize and add personality to your look.  Sprinkle them in on everything from denim to moto jackets and beyond!

What I’m Wearing: Lela Rose Ruched Sheath | Donald J Pliner Heels | Burberry Prorsum Leather Stud Bag  | Mossimo Denim Jacket | Berry Enamel Pins on Jacket | Vintage Flower Bracelet | Leather Wrap Bracelet |
