Panty Liners, Not Just for Lining Panties

It’s summer!  Time to re-stock my stylist kit with panty liners, yes pnt  lnrs.

I go through them in BULK during the summer months!

Panty liners are such a “natural” part of my kit that I have never given any thought to hiding them in a nondescript area.  They aren’t embarrassing, they are just another tool I use.  Sitting there in plain sight mingling with the safety pins, clips, tape, scissors and other stylist necessities.

I was on a shoot last week unpacking my kit when a model saw my ginormous stash of panty liners and said “Oh expecting a heavy flow?”

Um no.  Imagine my face.

This awkward conversation inspired me to share with you another of my Stylist’s Secret Tricks: Panty Liners.

A Fashion Stylist uses panty liners for pretty much everything EXCEPT their intended purpose!

They are a super versatile and inexpensive tool that we use to solve tons of “on the spot” emergencies and are the perfect way to solve some of your own wardrobe crises!

Re-purposing Panty Liners

  •  Inside swimwear and lingerie on photoshoots.  The pieces we shoot are samples sent from designers and pr firms.  These pieces are shot on models all over the world.  Stylist’s place a panty liner inside the garment to protect the garment AND the model.  To paint a vivid picture- model after model wearing the same intimate item- the panty liner provides a layer of protection.

  •  Armpits.  Shooting under hot lights can create alot of sweat.  Stylist’s use panty liners inside model’s dress shirts, jackets, etc. as a barrier to absorb sweat and prevent “ring around the armpit”.  I usually cut them in half then stick them to the inside of the shirt.

  • Camelflage.  Sometimes tight leggings or athletic gear can climb into places that the camera doesn’t want it to go.  One of the most effective ways of camouflaging camel-toe is with a panty liner. Instead of placing it in the usual spot cut the liner in half, turn it on its side and make sure it sits across the anatomy in question like a Band-Aid. The liner will create a smooth barrier between you and your pants.

  • Shoe Sizing. Shoes feeling a bit too big?  One foot bigger than the other?  A quick fix is to place a panty liner on the insole.  It takes up just enough space to help tighten up the fit of the shoe.  Use two if neccessary.

  • Sweaty Feet. Our feet sweat, especially when we have them on for extended periods of time.  Place a panty liner on the insole and let it do it’s job: Absorb.  I have found that the “thong” style panty liners work best for this but you can use the regular size as well.

What do you think?  Will a panty liner solve some of your Fashion emergencies?

  1. This was a very interesting and helpful… Who knew!! I like the under the arm trick… I guess you just have to hope it doesn’t slip and come out of the sleeve 🙂 awkward!
    Great Blog!!

  2. OMG the shoe one… this would have helped GREATLY at a wedding a few months ago. I was sliding around in my ultra heels and it was horrible! Going to go stick some in that pair now!

  3. Hi.. Im a guy and just want to say thanks for all this helpful information, .. especially the shoe trick 🙂

  4. Another use is to cut a strip off and stick it at the back of new shoes to stop them rubbing your heels. I’m currently using panty liners for covering a bad callus on the bottom of my foot. Cut a square, big enough to cover the outside of the callus, cut a hole in the middle so the callus is inside the hole. When you wear your shoes the cushioning surrounding the callus will lift it up so you don’t feel the callus when walking. Will also work for corns while you are treating them. I use cut up panty liners instead of spending a fortune on corn and callus pads.

  5. This is not for fashion, but have used a panty liners or pad for emergency large bandage. It’s clean because it’s been in a wrap. I keep one my car for emergencies.

  6. Asked yesterday if pantyliners can be worn in lieu of underwear, especially to erase the lines in pants [ white slacks in particular] . If so, which brand would be best for this purpose so as not to show and to adhere to the pants versus the person. Please respond as I would like to purchase and do not want to but 20 different brands

    1. I would not recommend that. I would invest in good thong/g-string underwear such a Cosabella’s Talco Thong.
