Promposal

Every once in awhile something happens that makes you stop, think and feel.

In my crazy life where I have to make magic happen at the drop of a dime and things are so on-the-go and urgent it’s easy to forget to stop an appreciate the everyday magic that surrounds us.

Last week I styled two of the most amazing teens I have ever met for Teen Vogue/Conde Nast Anthony Martinez and Jacob Lescenskii.

I am sure you have seen this heartwarming story on your social media channels, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, CNN or local news about the straight teen who asked his gay best friend to Prom.

This story of friendship and acceptance instantly went viral, hitting home with teens and adults alike.

Teen Vogue didn’t want to miss a single memory-making moment of Anthony and Jacobs Prom Date so they sent cameras to Las Vegas to capture the event and enlisted me to style them.

I took these fabulous fellas to one of my favorite shopping spots TOPMAN to get them suited up for Prom.

It was important for each of them to have their own individual look yet be visually interesting when paired together, after all there were going to be cameras EVERYWHERE!

Anthony and Jacob had both envisioned wearing some shade of blue, opting for something current, fashion forward and red carpet ready rather than a standard black tuxedo.

I combed through all of the so-on-point sartorial suiting at TOPMAN to choose what was best for each’s body type and had several choices waiting for the guys when they arrived for their fitting.

Anthony’s suit was an instant yes.  He knew right away that it was “the one”.

We experimented mixing things up by pairing with black tuxedo trousers with the teal jacket but landed on keeping the look timeless and formal with head to toe coordinated suiting.

Jacob tried on several suits (which all looked fantastic) but in the end chose the navy shawl collar tuxedo (mostly because he was obsessed with the navy ombre shoes that paired with it).

Jacob was styled in a bow tie and Anthony in a standard skinny tie to complete their looks.  I didn’t want them to be too matchy matchy so I used different style ties to set them apart.  The skinny tie’s silhouette suited Anthony’s petite frame while the oversized bow tie gave Jacob a pop of attitude.

Don’t they look sharp!
