An Englishman in New York

This season mens fashion is bringing back the Gentleman- but this time the look is a bit more lived in.

From runways to street styles men are showing off a refined yet understated silhouette, its all about disheveled luxury.

At the forefront of “The Disheveled Gentleman” pack is one of my favorite menswear lines Ben Sherman.

For Autumn 2011 Ben Sherman has launched the Plectrum by Ben Sherman Collection.

The Plectrum Collection is full of rich old world charm with a ground breaking advertising campaign that ushers in a new form of advertising.

The style is a mix of old English and military influenced design; featuring knitwear in tweedy yarns, colour blocking, layering, traditional gingham’s, plaids and outerwear statement pieces.

“The notion of an Englishman in New York conjures up images of the discerning, well traveled gentleman, curious and intrepid in his quest to discover the foreign and the fascinating. It is from this timeless, almost heroic, character that the Plectrum Collection takes its inspiration for Autumn 2011, delivering a collection that captivates the very essence of this eccentric gentleman; the Englishman in New York” -Ben Sherman

Ben Shermanworked hand in hand with Dazed and Confused, one of the worlds most respected contemporary and lifestyle publications. Together they tracked down an assortment of interesting and stylish Englishmen who have made New York their home.

Each were given the freedom to select whatever they wanted from the collection- to be worn in their own way and shot in their own neighborhoods!

All of the men will be profiled in a six page article in the September issue of Dazed and Confused magazine along with exclusive video content on Dazed Digital!

  1. I think the campaign is delightful and creative! I’ve already been incorporating a dash of British fashion in my style by wearing hair fascinators. And my hubby has always been a fan of Ben Sherman.

  2. Excellent, this is the new look I’m working on with all the old school ukulele playing and swing dancing… And the historical vibe on the East Coast… In DC I have friends that are in to the Dandies and Quaintrelles thing they ride old school bicycles around downtown and make merry… I have been looking at how to pull this off, I should have known Ben would have it covered… Now I just have to find a BS somewhere near me… LOL…

  3. I love Ben Sherman. I’m not gonna lie though, it’s all about that ‘STACHE!!!
I wish I could pull that off. Maybe I’ll bring the derby back.
    (Hope I win!)

  4. I am excited about the new looks this season. I love color blocking, layering, and plaid. Since I am moving to Utah I can experiment more with fun jackets, vests, and sweaters!

  5. I love, love, LOVE this post. When I lived in New York City, I distinctly remember being surrounded by Englishman who took style in such a noticeably interesting direction–and these photographs reflect that beautifully. Is Ben Sherman at Miracle Mile still doing a womens line? Aside from boarding a plane to London, I don’t know how you can get more British than a trip to Ben Sherman.

  6. I’ve always paired plaid with tweed so this campaign is right up my alley. Now if I could grow a mustache, I’d be golden. Being asian makes it difficult so I guess I’ll have to buy a mustache when I’m rocking my Ben Sherman outfit.

  7. My wife has turned me on to ben sherman and besides liking the styles, the european fit suits me well. Now all i need is a sweet moustache like the pics above and im golden! Although last time I grew one she said I looked like a child molester…..

  8. No moustache jake!!!! Although he does look really sexy in his new ben sherman suit! We have 9 weddings to go to this year so he could really use some new stuff to be the most stylish at the wedding!

  9. I’m digging the return of the Magnum P.I. look. Only this British twist is a definate improvement Time to stop shaving and prepare for a fun-filled fall.
