Comme des Garçons

My heart has been stolen by Comme des Garçons Play Chucks.

After being on a waitlist for what seemed like FOREVER I finally got to slip my foot into a pair of  Comme des Garçons Play x Converse.

I have been ogling these babies for awhile now and finally pulled the trigger when I saw these cute khaki low tops! Playful but designer you will be seeing me in these on repeat.

In case you haven’t joined the cult that is CDG yet, here’s a little info:

Comme des Garçons was founded by Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, and launched by Kawakubo in 1969. The brand came into global prominence in the ’80s with its dismantled, unconstructed approach to design.

COMME des GARÇONS PLAY, the brand’s more casual luxury line, was launched in 2002. It became immediately recognizable from its iconic peeping heart logo, designed by Polish artist Filip Pagowski.

The first-ever Converse x Comme des Garçon project released in 2009, but became more readily available during the 2015 release. Combining the simplicity of Converse and the exuberant design aspects of Comme des Garçons the collaboration became an immediate hit. Since then the eye-catching heart logo has become recognizable around the globe and has garnered a cult following of both celebrates and fashion aficionados.

These kicks sell out as faster than stores can stock them. New limited edition designs are launched each season making them highly coveted by sneaker collectors.

Known for their lace-up style for a glove-like fit and silver-tone eyelet hardware for a hint of glimmer. They have a thick sole for added comfort, as well as a comfy cloud-like removable insole that you can wear with or without.. I recommend WITH!

CDG chucks are the perfect way to step up your everyday look.

Vintage Prints Meet Spring/Summer 2021

Vintage prints are the BIZ for Spring/Summer 2021.

It was about this time last year when I made a fashion prediction.  Channeling my inner Nostradamus my post “Quarantine and the Resurgence of Vintage Fabrics” stated that we would see a HUGE influx of vintage inspired fabrics and prints this season.

.. And here we are, vintage prints EVERYWHERE!

With florals, surf and postcard prints in everything, it’s pretty obvious fashion is having a printastic love affair with days gone by.

Designers have given vintage florals a contemporary twist in the form of exploded and oversized blooms set on contrasting backgrounds. These new floral prints feature and illustrated retro quality. Think vintage drapery patterns.

It’s an overall nostalgic feel that could most definitely be the result of us all doing deep dives into our parents and grandparents closets over the past year.  These quarantine vintage treasures set in motion a boom in not only vintage/thrift shopping but also deadstock fabrics and retro inspired prints.

Flowers aren’t the only thing getting a vintage makeover. Nostalgia for vacations (oh how we have missed those) is also a print prevalent theme through prints that harken back to 1950’s Hawaiian surf culture and chic Cote d’Azure vacations.

Whether it’s a retro tropical infusion or a refined floral vintage aesthetic these prints in light breezy fabrics are here to set the mood for Spring/Summer 2021 and it’s looking pretty sunny!

With the energy and lightness of the season in mind you can’t help but feel it when you put these pieces on.

Spring Cocktail Trends

Spring Cocktail Trends

Spring has SPRUNG! This time of year, we’re seeing a whole new crop of seasonal food and drink trends blooming in popularity.

…and it’s time to toast to Spring with delicious seasonal appropriate tipples (that’s cocktails you’ll want to drink again and again).

Whether you’re trying to up your hosting game or looking for the deets on what all the “cool-kids” will be ordering at the bar, read on to discover the ingredients and flavors you need to taste test this Spring.

I pulled up a barstool and chatted with Catherine Lien, Lead Mixologist at Delmonico Steakhouse at Grand Canal Shoppes inside the Venetian Resort Las Vegas to get the inside info on Spring cocktail trends and what we will be drinking this season. From the rise in Instagrammable cocktails to a call for low-ABV and healthy cocktails, Catherine shares the secrets to the perfect spring libation and recipes to make three of Delmonico Steakhouse’s signature cocktails.

Q: What are the biggest cocktail trends you are seeing for Spring 2021?

CL: Health conscience drinks promoting wellness and well-being.

Q: Tell us  “THE” drink all the cool kids will be ordering?

CL: Variations of classic cocktails. Anything from margaritas to old fashioneds. Also mezcal and tequila with fresh fruit.

Q: With health and wellness at the top of people’s minds these days, what types of cocktails are the best guilt-free cocktails for the health-conscious?

CL: Hard seltzers that are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C as well as hard iced teas and probiotic hard kombuchas.

Q: There has also been increased demand for carbon-negative/environmentally friendly products and packaging.  How has that spilled over into the world of cocktails?

CL: People are specifically looking for brands that are environmentally friendly. Companies are now looking for ways to bottle and package their brands in an environmentally friendly way, reducing their negative impact on the environment. Anything from using biodegradable or recycled bottles, sending their leftover grains to farm for livestock feed, converting waste into energy to run production of more distillation, or using locally sourced sustainable ingredients.

Q: Over the last year, (especially with TikTok) we have all been embracing at-home cocktails. Do you have a fave cocktail to mix up at home.

CL: As far as what I drink at home it is usually a dram of whiskey. However, when I do mix up a cocktail at home I prefer one that has simple ingredients and isn’t too labor-intensive. A Manhattan or old-fashioned are my go-to’s.

Q: What should the average person have on-hand to make a great cocktail at home anytime?

CL: Spirits for one. Fresh citrus, mixers, bitters, and bar tools including a mixing tin and a jigger.

Q: You mentioned that gin, mezcal, and tequila are booming — why do you think they’re doing particularly well?

CL: I think that they are lighter spirits that can be complemented by a plethora of other flavors. Think of margaritas and tequila and mezcal with fresh fruit. Gin is a lighter spirit that has more nuances than vodka for those with more mature palates.

Q: Define the perfect cocktail.

CL: A perfect cocktail to me is one that has balance and harmony, that you want to keep drinking. It creates a symphony in your mouth and makes you really think about the ingredients and how they work together.

Q: The one thing you wish more people knew about bartending?

CL: It’s not nearly as easy as it looks.

Q: What is the weirdest drink anyone has ever ordered from you?

CL: Louis XIII rusty nails. It’s actually a classic cocktail but why would you ever mix Louis XIII with anything?

Q: Your go-to drink order right now?

CL: Any of the Glendronach single malt scotches neat.

Q: What are three must-have cocktails to order at Delmonico Steakhouse?

CL: Thyme Out of Mind, Strawberry Fields and Citrus Paradisi (recipes below)

Spring is nature’s way of saying “Let’s Party”.  I hope these Spring cocktail trends have inspired you to be blissful, be creative and be daring. Most of all I hope they have inspired you to “BE” sitting on a barstool at Delmonico Steakhouse while  Catherine Lien, Lead Mixologist mixes you up a signature cocktail.

Enjoy these splashes of joy, Chickees!

What to Wear for Easter

What to Wear for Easter

It never fails, each year I always struggle with ideas of what to wear for Easter and Spring in general.

I am a Fall/Winter type of dresser and I naturally gravitate toward dark and vibrant colors so when “pastel season” comes around I’m always at a loss.

Luckily Spring 2021 has brought a whole new moody type of Spring palette in the form of watercolor prints. It’s a walk on the softer side (like pastels) but with an emo-esc fashion twist.

Think of the watercolor trend as the chic grown-up relative of tie-dye, but with the added effect of blotchy, almost diluted-like edges. While some designers’ takes on watercolor feature more uniform patterns like Dries Van Noten, others like Acne Studios and Kenzo used them in a dip-dye effect to create random delicate patterns.

Influenced by the work of master painters, watercolor prints bring a mood of romantic expressiveness to womenswear.  You will see watercolor prints in both all-over patterns and in oversized placements against white and off-white bases which give a fresh “clothing as canvas” effect.

Soft, dreamy and totally perfect for Easter dressing it’s a great way to get that Spring vibe without sacrificing your “I hate pastels” mantra.

Chocolate eggs? Done! Easter Baskets? Assembled. What to wear for Easter? An easy no-brainer with soft watercolor prints!

Disneyland Comfort Shoe...

There’s only one place in the world where I will willingly and happily walk over 10 miles outside in the heat and stand in line for hours on end, Disneyland. Disneyland is the place that can fill your heart with joy and can also fill your feet with pain. Seriously, it’s estimated that guests walk […]

Acid Wash Denim

The denim world has been turned upside down by Gen Z’s call to cancel skinny jeans. This call heard round the internet was first sung on TikTok. According to the Gen Z’ers, skinny jeans are OUT  (along with side parts) and we should swap them out for baggy jeans immediately, lest we appear lame. Or […]

How to Relieve Pandemic...

After a year of adjusting our daily lives to the coronavirus, it’s okay to still not be feeling 100. Covid-19 has us all feeling more anxious than ever these days, and has given rise to a new condition called “pandemic fatigue.” Pandemic Fatigue is the exhaustion you may be feeling after months of spending extra […]

My Latest Obsession Chu...

There’s a misconception that makes the rounds this time of year, one that says boots are something you should only wear during the colder months. But that’s not true! Boots are something you can rock year-round, it’s all in how you style them and the type of boot you choose. You’re probably eager to shed […]
