A good makeup brush is hard to find.

When you finally do find one you like, odds are it will be made of natural/animal hair, most commonly squirrel, mink, sable, horse (sometimes called “pony” or “camel”), or goat hair.

Mink and sable brushes typically use hair obtained from the fur industry, which is known for trapping and killing animals for their pelts, often by gassing or electrocuting to avoid damaging the hair. Horse hair commonly comes from horses slaughtered for meat, goats are shorn like sheep (and may suffer cuts and other horrific injuries), and squirrels are hunted or trapped. Some manufacturers obtain their hair supplies from other countries, where animal welfare regulations are either lax or nonexistent.

Not the most cruelty-free of products! So you can see why I prefer my makeup brushes to be made with synthetic bristles.  In the past it was difficult to find a high quality synthetic brush- they either didn’t hold makeup as well or they weren’t as durable as natural/animal hair brushes until now!
