Denim you Chambray?

Chambray Vs. Denim.  Both are hotter than hot this season.  Alone or combined you can’t go wrong with either for Spring/Summer.

I thought this week I would give you a little lesson on the difference between them so that you can sound like an uber fashion expert when you hit the shops.

It is super common to get denim and chambray confused.  Everyone does it.

Although they appear very similar at first glance, chambray is a plain weave fabric while denim is a twill wool fabric.  Something that you think is a really soft denim may actually be chambray and vise versa.

The big difference is in the weaving. Denim is woven diagonally, while chambray is plainly woven with more of a traditional criss-cross weaving.

The best way to tell them apart is by looking on the inside. You will notice a lighter color to the underside of a denim fabric, whereas the underside of chambray will appear much more similar to its face side.

Notice the obvious diagonal lines on the denim while you see a cross-hatch type weaving on the chambray.

Got it?

Denim = Diagonal

Chambray= Criss Cross

So now when you sport your oh so on-trend head-to-toe denim look you know whether its denim on denim or really denim on chambray! Aren’t you fancy!
