Fall Trends Patches

PatchTrebdFall2016

This Fall there is a little trend stichin’ up the fashion world.

Kitschy patches are rapidly sewing their way to the top of the must-have trends for Fall 2016.  From high end designers like Miu Miu, Gucci and Stella McCartney to street-style brands likes TOPSHOP and Nasty Gal designers can’t seem to get enough of patches!

Now of course these designers are selling their wares with patches already on them but the great thing about this trend is that its super DIY friendly!

The patch trend adds fuel to and  further emphasizes fashion’s current love affair with personalization.  Incorporating a few vintage patches onto a basic shirt can not only transform it into something super chic and designer-esc, it also lets you infuse your personality into your clothing.

I began today’s look of the day with this basic boyfriend shirt I picked up at Nordstrom Rack for next to nothing.

My collection of vintage patches has been growing and this season is finally the perfect time to put them to use.

You can find “lots” of vintage patches on Ebay and on Amazon for pretty cheap- usually you can buy a dozen “surprise” pack for like $5.  Retailers such as TOPSHOP and Nasty Gal also sell some pretty amazing POP culture patches on their sites- they are a bit more pricey but totally worth it to get the perfect patch (around $14 for 3 or 4 patches).

I took the patches and generously sprinkled them throughout the shirt and backpack placing them at different angles.  I suggest you lay out all of your patches and pin them before you start sewing.  This makes it easy to move them around until you find a combination you like.  Make sure to place a few on the back as well- it will give you that true designer touch.  Keep in mind that some patches say they are iron on but I never trust that they will hold so I always stitch them on- you can do this by hand or by machine.

Look at how the patches really bring the pieces to life… instantly it becomes a designer look-a-like.  Is that Stella McCartney?  No is a Christie original LOL.

I LOVE how the AG STILT Roll-up jeans and my new Donald J Pliner Hailee heels paired with this look.  Mixing in an animal print (another HUGE Fall Trend) keeps the look fun and whimsical yet fantastically fashionably street-style serious.
