How to Wear a Retro 80s Cartoon T-shirt

Back in the ’80s, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe totally ruled the weekday afternoon television screen.

The aisles of toy stores across the country were packed full of He-man memorabilia, making boys and girls everywhere lift their plastic power swords and yell “I Have The Power!”. And now on their 35th anniversary, He-Man, She-Ra, and all their colorful adversaries (hello Skeletor) are about to make a big comeback, with a Masters of the Universe live-action film coming to movie screens, and a new She-Ra animated series hitting Netflix, both next year.

I shared a few months ago how 80s and 90s nostalgia is a HUGE influence on the Fall 2018 Collections and that includes all those colorful cartoon heroes of your childhood!

Whether you were crushing on dreamy He-man, the anime guardians from Voltron, the real American heroes of Gi-Joe or something a little more cuddly and mysterious like the meddling kids of Scooby Doo show off your love for 80s cartoons this season with retro inspired t-shirts.

Pair these Insta-worthy tees with a cool pair of ripped jeans and leather jacket, or chic it up a little and wear one under a tailored black suit, with a sequined skirt, tucked into high-waist pants or paired with a printed maxi or midi skirt- you really can’t go wrong!

Worried about making the look cohesive and chic?  Here’s the trick for wearing a Retro 80s Cartoon T-shirt:  use ONE color to carry through and anchor your look.  Choose one color in your t-shirt’s graphic that is also in whatever you pair it with.  This will bring the look together and create something visually interesting.

  1. This is so lovely! How I wish I was as talented and could pull off such a look. I love this outfit it fits together really well.

  2. I think I am a bit too young for He Man, as I don’t know the series. However, I would like to wear retro tshirts with the cartoons I grew up with. I like how the colors from the tshirt match the ones on your skirt.
