Nothing is more classic than red, white and blue.
It is a chic color combination that just oozes summer style and sophistication.
4th of July is right around the corner, with all the BBQs, firework events and pool parties you are probably itching to get your red, white and blue on.
I’m not saying there is anything wrong with showing some patriotic flair but before you bust out that American Flag t-shirt or your puffy paints and glitter take a deep breath and remember you don’t want to look like Betsy Ross styled you.
To ensure that 4th of July look will still be stylish on July 5th keep in mind these 3 simple tips when creating your independence day ensemble:
- Use the 60%,30%, 10% rule. 60% of the look in one color, 30% in another and 10% in the third which gives you that “pop” of color.
- Prints. If you wear stripes combine them with a solid or a print that ISN”T stars like gingham, plaids or polka dots.
- Play with the shades. Opt for cream or off-white over stark white. Try mixing in lighter shades of blue. It will create a softer look that still gets the point across without being to “flaggy”.

I absolutely love the red, white, and blue in the 60/30/10 images. The red skirt is fantastic and looks great with the top. I would definitely wear something like this on the 4th of July.
I love the sunglasses and the shoes too. I would love to find a pair of red shoes to go with it but it is so hard to match reds. Your choice of shoes is probably the best way to go.
Normally I don’t dress up for the holiday because we never do anything for it. But these are some cute ideas and I like the middle one the best.
I will be wearing Khaki Shorts; Blue Polo, & Black Hat. Yep, that’s right … I have to work on the 4th of July.
Can I just admit I had to Google Betsy Ross (hello – Australian here). Talk about face palm. My red white and blue this Thursday is blue vintage tee, blue and white patterned shorts and my brand new red high top vans. Yeah baby. Spending the day running after a two year old, I think this will work.
I’ve never heard of the 60/30/10 rule, but I can see LOTS of times that would be helpful!! I’m still too timid to mix my patterns, I’m always afraid I’m doing it wrong!!
Love it! And I love that skirt. I almost bought it the other day. Now that I see it here, I want it!! Of course! UGH…just packing today for our trip and was thinking about how I don’t have enough red for 4th of July. Need more red!
Seriously LOVE the title of this post! Not sure what I’ll be rockin yet but it won’t be much. It’s freagin HOT here 😉
