Mulberry Gets Creative for Fall 2016

One year ago beloved British fashion powerhouse Mulberry made a bold move and announced Spanish born designer Johnny Coca as their new Creative Director.

His job?  To reinvent the iconic British brand after it had struggled for the last couple years with it’s identity.  Until the Fall 2016 shows Mulberry hadn’t shown at Fashion week for over 2 years!

But now in the everything-he-touches-is-magic hands of Coca, Mulberry is back and better than ever!

“I want to instill a sense of British character and lineage back into the Mulberry brand, building on our heritage rather than creating something completely new. To be truly modern you need to have respect for the past.” -Johnny Coca

Johnny has worked in the international luxury and fashion industry for over 15 years, notably at Louis Vuitton with Marc Jacobs and Céline with both Michael Kors and Phoebe Philo.  Coca was the creator of Celine’s famed Trapeze bag- one of their most successful handbags EVER.

Fall 2016 is Johnny Coca’s first collection with Mulberry and it’s oh so delicious.  The bags, the RTW and oh ma lawrd the shoes!

The collection has that iconic Mulberry sensibility and a thoroughly British feel yet at the same time embodies the perfect amount of edge and modernity.  My prediction is that this collection gives birth to Fall 2016’s “IT” bag.

To infuse the collection with just the right amount of edge, Coca took inspiration from the 1980s King’s Road punk culture.

The collection is packed full of interesting details such as edgy zippers, chains and military finishings with new lust-worthy shapes like oversized triangular pouches with handles.  The palette features classic shades of khaki, navy, burgundy and black, with silhouettes occasionally broken by pops of bright orange, vibrant yellow, leopard and Mulberry’s signature Racing Green.

I popped into the Mulberry Boutique here in Las Vegas at the Forum Shops last week as this drool worthy collection was just landing to get my hands on these gorgeous pieces in person.

I probably spent 15 minutes of my time playing with and drooling over my new OBSESSION… this fantastically sexy chain strap zip pouch with snap on business card attachment. So luxe yet practical.

Johnny Coca has given each piece has such thoughtful and purposeful details.

These bags convert from a chain handle bag to a crossbody…and the leather feels like butter!
