Ugly Christmas sweaters are as synonymous with the holidays as Santa Claus, reindeer and fruit cake!
While Ugly Christmas Sweaters have been around for decades (I have the family photos to prove it), it’s only recently that they have become super-trendy.
The ugly Christmas sweater, once a musty Goodwill gem worn ironically, can now be found on celebrities, fashion icons and trendsetters. Snoop Dog has been spotted in one, so has Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Lauren Conrad, Matt Damon and Katy Perry.
Just about everybody is in on the deliberately ugly holiday wear game. It has become a sort of competition on whose sweater is truly the “ugliest” and which spurs the most conversation and laughs.
There are Ugly Christmas Sweater parties, pub crawls and there is even an Ugly Christmas Sweater Run!
Ugly Christmas Sweaters have become so hot that they have their own holiday—December 16 is National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day.
