OOTD: 50 Shades of Grey

This OOTD began with 2 pieces that I can’t get enough of: Free People Jacquard Vegan Moto Jacket and Allsaints Vespers boot.

The skies have been so grey lately that it put me in a grey-play mood.  I love combining and layering different shades of grey and black to create depth and dimension in a look.

When dressing you want to keep in mind: print, texture, color and layers.  All of these thing create depth, you never want your look to appear flat or 1 dimensional. Texture and depth of field can take a basic color palette (like grey and black) to new heights by moving your eye around with texture- like the faux leather details and jacquard print in the jacket. The variations in the shades creates additional depth in a soft color wheel fade.

I began with this great wanderlust tee from T.LA and black fitted jeans as a base then layered in the American Vintage scarf, jacquard moto jacket and beanie.  I know you have all see this beanie before but I’m obsessed with it!  Its super cute and goes with everything from edgy looks to sweet/demure looks and even chalet chic vibes.  I keep it in my handbag all the time now because with these ridiculous temps you never know when you might need a beanie!

The mixed media elements of the moto jacket have rocketed it to the top of my favorite’s list.  It looks and feels like a jacket you have carefully worn in for years to perfection.

If you have been looking for the softest best fitting tee ever- then look no further.  T.LA makes the most amazing and luxe tees I have ever worn!

Speaking of soft.  I am having a love affair with the French label American Vintage. They are known for creating luxe, timeless basics with a simple aesthetic and subtle elegance that radiate laid back American style, but with a classic Parisian chic vibe.  Their scarves are crafted of super soft cotton and are truly the best fitting and most wearable scarves around.

I have had tons of clients and readers recently ask me what is the proper way to wear a scarf.

The answer is: Anyway you want.  Feel free to play with it.  Whatever works with your outfit is the right way.  I tend to go Canadian with mine by taking the scarf, folding it in half and then looping the bottom half through the loop at the top.  Its an easy way to keep your neck warm while looking super chic.  This style works best with long scarves.

I’m all about the boots.  I had been drooling over these sweet Allsaints boots for months and then my hubby surprised me with them!

They lace up the front like a combat boot but have these edgy working zippers up the back and an oiled finish that gives a supple look to the leather.  To really show them off and frame them I put a small cuff at the bottom of my jeans ala the Lumber Jack Chic trend.

  1. I love, love, love the gray palette. I’ve been reaching for greys here too and it’s so much fun mixing them up with beanies (Asian inspired, with animal faces of course) and jackets. Sweet!
