Shirt-dresses are hotter than hot this season. Just about every designer from high to low has at least one in their SS15 Collection.
Easy, classic and refined they are super versatile but can tend to look a little house-wifey.
In order to give the look a kick of on trend edge I paired a 1970s vintage shirt-dress with a woven belt, vintage Gucci aviators, a saddle style handbag and my most coveted Chloe wedges.
I love vintage pieces, I mean come on look at how amazing the details are- those buttons and the tiny bow at the collar are absolutely dreamy- but I don’t want to look like I’m wearing a period costume or that I’m a day player on an episode of Mad Men.
The key to wearing vintage in your everyday life is all in the pairing. If I were to partner this dress with a lady-like handbag, dainty pumps, a strand of pearls and cat-eye glasses it would have an entirely different feel and be waaaaay to literal.
By pairing these edgy boho leather pieces with this classic shirt-dress it gives it an unexpected contrast that puts a modern spin on this timeless silhouette which is interesting yet feels absolutely natural.
Have fun and play around with it, just use the rule of thumb that if it feels like you are wearing a costume it probably looks that way too.
