Each year Pantone, the global authority on all things color conducts extensive research on color trends.  They poll décor and fashion designers, as well as manufacturers and retailers, on what colors they plan to use to pick the color of the coming year, calculate their findings and then announce the Color of the Year. This annual event is closely watched by the design and fashion industry as the tipoff to a trend that usually spreads through home décor, fashion and design.

For the first time EVER Pantone announced that 2016 has TWO Colors of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.

“A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”

“With our hectic lives and the frenzy around us, there is an increasing demand for tranquility,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute’s executive director.“Wearing both of these hues at once is like returning to the weightlessness of your youth,” says Eiseman. “The combination of a cool and a warm color brings a sense of balance.”

Once you get past the initial “Those are baby shower colors” reaction the combination can be very romantic and dreamy. Think unicorns, faeries, the sky at dusk and cotton candy!

The serene pastel combo pairs easily with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns, and all shades of yellow and pink. Add in silver, gold or hot brights for more splash and sparkle.
