Last week Actress and Southern Sweetie Reese Witherspoon launched her charming Southern inspired fashion and lifestyle line Draper James.
With the mantra of “Unapologetically Pretty” the line draws inspiration from Reese’s Southern roots of colorful prints, matchy-match sets, girly dresses and easy relaxed style. Her hope is that the line be more than a place to buy pretty, stylish clothing, accessories, and home décor; she also wants it to be a destination for getting to know many of the diverse and talented people doing creative things in the South.
“I started this company to honor my Southern heritage and in particular my grandparents who were, and still are, the greatest influences in my life: my grandmother, Dorothea Draper and my grandfather, William James Witherspoon. My grandparents taught me everything I know about gracious Southern living. From them I learned to dress and act like a lady, to take pride in my home, to reach out to help a neighbor, and to always invite everyone in for a visit. My grandmother Dorothea only drove white Cadillacs—always while wearingproper driving gloves. She didn’t have a lot of dresses, but she had an incredible sense of style and knew how to make the most of any outfit by wearing the perfect accessories. Her shoes always matched her purse and she never removed her pearls or her wedding ring.”– Reese Witherspoon
Witherspoon says this line is a way to deliver the signature charm and grace of the south to a new generation through contemporary, yet timeless Southern style for your wardrobe and your home, no matter where you live.
Seventy percent of Draper James is made in the US and the goal is to eventually produce everything domestically with a bulk of that production being in the South. The website even has a specialty “Made in the South” area featuring Southern saying cocktail napkins clothing and of course, “Thank You” cards.
Packed full of joyful southern fun here are a few of my favorites from the collection:
