Seasonal Transition Tricks

Even though we are neck deep in the burrr of winter it’s time to start thinking about seasonal transitioning- wardrobe pieces that you can wear now and into Spring.

Fashion Week gave us a glimpse into the trends we’ll be wearing this coming spring, and there is no better time than now to prep your closet for what’s to come!

Get ahead of the style-game by incorporating a few of my seasonal transition tricks to keep your wardrobe on trend and fashion forward.

This look of the day is composed of not just ONE but FOUR trends/tricks that can help you make that leap from Winter to Spring: 1. Lightweight Outerwear, 2. Turtlenecks with dresses, 3. Statement Necklaces and 4. Texture

Believe it or not one of Spring 2017’s hottest trends is totally cold weather friendly.  Outerwear becomes a Spring staple in the form of lightweight trench coats, airy robe-coats and floaty dusters which are the perfect wear-now wear-later piece.  Wear it now as a layering piece between your heavy jacket and base pieces and wear it into Spring as a topper paired with spring dresses, tanks, denim and sneakers.

A tried and true styling trick that is hotter than hot this season is to layer turtlenecks with dresses that would otherwise be all about Spring.  Valentino, Tory Burch, Karen Walker and Creatures of the Wind all showcased the long sleeved winter staple layered under everything from sheer boho style dresses to glittery cocktail frocks, luxe velvet pieces and red carpet worthy gowns.  Wear sleeveless, spaghetti strap and slip dresses now layered with turtlenecks then ditch the turtleneck come Spring!

Shopping TIP: After hunting for MONTHS for the perfect turtleneck I found it- at Old Navy!  Its feather light, fits like a dream and the cost was oh so pocket friendly!  They are sold out online but brick and mortar stores still have some and it’s only $8.

The past few seasons have been dominated by the choker but for Spring 2017 the long necklace is back!  From Chanel to Prada and Givenchy designers paired this lengthy trend with everything from sporty to Red Carpet glam looks.

If you are a frequent reader you know how OBSESSED I am with The Giving Keys whose necklaces share words of inspiration and employ those transitioning out of homelessness.  This is their latest creation the Matte Black Key which totes my New Years Resolution- to be fearless in everything I do this this year!  I paired it with this GORGEOUS necklace by my lovely pink haired friend Tarina Tarantino… if you aren’t familiar with her iconic poppy designs you HAVE to check them out at tarinatarantino.com

Texture, Texture Texture.  I can’t stress enough how important texture is to a look.  Season after season it adds depth and gives your look life!  Try mixing texture, patterns and textiles that are within the same color family.  I have combined, leather, brocade, faux crocodile, leopard print and pony-hair together in this look.

  2. Such good ideas!! I actually almost bought a turtleneck yesterday and didn’t–and now I’m really regretting it. I love the way you’ve styled it with your dress. And the textures! Oh my gosh, the textures. I love how everything you have on just sings together.
