Lets Face it, men’s evening and business wear can become a bit boring.
Most gents typically have 1 or 2 suits they drag out and dust off for a special occasion.
The look is slapped together like a uniform. Suit (black or grey), shirt (typically white or blue), tie (simple and not with much pizazz), black socks, and black shoes.
Every guy looks the same.
An event becomes a sea of clones in black and white, once your date heads for the bar to grab cocktails you basically need a GPS to find him.
Set yourself apart! Guys, you need to learn to man-ccessorize!
One of my favorite man-ccessories are the often underestimated socks. They are a simple way to add character to what may otherwise be a dull look. For men who are new to or afraid of man-ccessorizing this is a great place to start, socks are subtle enough that most people don’t notice but those that count will shriek with delight at your fashion forward move.
Punch-up the chic factor of your look with some socks that have color and personality. Use the socks like any other statement accessory, sparingly. Start with a neutral colored look (greys, blacks, beiges, browns) and use the sock to give it a hit of color. If you want to add funky socks to a look that already incorporates color remember to keep it all in the same color family.
Funky socks can add flair to even the most serious look! How far you go depends on your comfort level. Start with a bold color then once your more advanced segway into stripes and patterns. Its all about your mood and fashion personality.

What do I do to stand out at a cocktail party? I get drunk and cause a scene. Is that wrong?
Under a jacket, I like to wear a bright colored shirt like pink or even gingham to stand out in the crowd.
Man-Cessory like these socks ROCK! So cool thank you for reminding me about men’s tootsies and how if not cared for should be covered up with something really cool like those socks. 🙂 B!
Great info on da socks! I work as a flight attendant, and absolutely LUV seeing the business men cross their legs and out peaks a spot of color from their boring suits. Men, take note….womens’ minds get a little excited when we see you can “have fun” in a very simple yet stylish way!
I have encouraged my man to have some fun with his sock selection…plaid is as far as he has gone…baby steps. I kinda like to do the same thing at a cocktail party…if the dress warrants it, I like to wear detailed hosiery.
LOVE the mens socks, I am just now getting Juan to step out of his “box”. This year I got him a beautiful corduroy sport jacket, loved it with a nice jean!

Well… As you know, When Im out I like to scream ” I need water” to get everyones attention!! I stand out REAL WELL when I throw up on everyones shoes! haha
When I go to a cocktail party, I like to bring an awesome bottle of wine. Most people don’t know the difference between that and the cheap stuff but I KNOW and I feel proud 🙂
I am unique when I go out no matter what. For a cocktail party I am most likely going to be wearing my kilt. Definitely makes me stand out. That and my ties that accompany the kilt; anything bright, crisp, and fun.
I’ve never really done anything unusual to make myself standout, be noticed. But maybe I can remedy that by giving my husband a pair of these socks for Christmas! I wonder if my girls would scream with delight or think we have gone over the top, but I’d bet they would hoot and think it great.
I love really good ties and shoes. I stay clear of boring but make sure that it doesn’t get tacky. I love classic designs with a twist. Bringing good personality is always a great way to get noticed… but you need to make sure that it isn’t obnoxious.
