Sunscreen for your Hair

Yes Sunscreen for your hair is a thing and an important one if you want to keep those locks on point this season.

Stepping outside without protection, especially with color treated hair, puts your hair at risk for damage.

Why?  When ultraviolet (UV) light penetrates the hair’s cuticle (the protective, outermost layer of the hair shaft), highly reactive molecules called “free radicals” can be produced which attack hair proteins, especially keratin, from which the hair shaft is primarily composed leaving hair dry, dull, discolored, fragile, and prone to split ends and frizzing.

To keep that coif from becoming a dry, brittle, faded mess make sure to add a hair sunscreen into your summer hair regimen.  Trust me it makes a HUGE difference.

I sampled my way through the beauty market and rounded up five of my top rated hair sunscreens to help you fight those harmful UVA (the long waves) and UVB (the short waves) rays PLUS keep hair looking Instagram perfect all summer long.

Sachajuan Hair In The Sun uses a co-polymer of coconut oil and cinnamon that acts as a UV filter, absorbing rays and keeping your hair from losing color and moisture.  Bonus, it smells FANTASTIC and won’t weigh your hair down.

Bumble and Bumble Bb. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer. Works like a skincare primer but for your hair. Combats the effects of harsh UV rays from the sun and serves as a protective layer against the elements and heat damage.  I use this before every blowout.

Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray not only gives hair that great beach wave but also major sheen, and UV protection.

Wella Professionals Sun Protection Spray. This amazing spray not only protects your hair from harsh sun rays, but also hydrates tresses from root to tip.

Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil A lightweight, water-resistant UV-defense mist that forms an invisible screen to help protect hair from sun exposure for up to 16 hours, to minimize color fading, damage and dryness.
