How to Wear Spring’s Spicy Hues Now

How to Wear Spring's Spicy Hues Now

This is the time of year that we in the fashion industry start to talk about “transition pieces”-  pieces that you can wear now and into Spring.

The idea is all about embracing the upcoming spring trends while staying warm and cozy during the winter months! Layer them up NOW for winter vibes with a coat, hat, scarf, tights and boots then wear the look again in another iteration when things warm up by ditching the layers and creating a new airy combination with open toe heels or sandals, a clutch and a statement necklace come spring.  Winter trend + Spring trend= Transition.  Wear it now, wear it later!

The easiest way to embrace Spring trends now is with color and luckily this Spring designers seem to have moved away from the typical pastels and toward earthy hues that work well in any season.

Spring 2019 will be dominated by warm, spicy and fiery shades. Lively hues that are a mix of bright reds and oranges.  According to Pantone “The mindset for Spring/Summer 2019 reflects our desire to face the future with empowering colors that provide confidence and spirit; colors that are uplifting; joyful hues that lend themselves to playful expressionism and take us down a path of creative and unexpected combinations”.

Challenge accepted Pantone!  I love a good spicy palette, that combined with artisanal flourishes like ruffled hems and billowing sleeves lend an artful aura to a look plus make layering oh so easy!

And, if you include a few more spring trends such as craft elements like patchwork, fringing, fabric bundles and woven textures to infuse your clothing with personality you’ll be two steps ahead in the trend game!

Three of my favorites from Pantone’s Spring Color Report are Jester Red, Fiesta and Terrarium Moss.  They are fiery, dynamic, look great on every skin tone, and give off a retro vibe plus they pair flawlessly.

Whether you are creating a look using texture for depth or mixing prints you can’t go wrong with these three epice shades as your muse to add a little spice to your wardrobe.

Westworld Inspired Prairie Style

Westworld Inspired Prairie Style

Westworld is back, and my obsession with the series has reached peak levels.

I can’t get enough of it, the amazing characters, sets and of course the style.

The women of Westworld have a bit more of a prairie vibe than a wild wild west type of fashion sense, a trend that I am oh so happy to get on-board with and don’t mind snagging some inspiration from.  It’s the perfect fusion of Western and Boho and it’s oh so wearable.

Think light airy fabrics paired with layered cuts, frills, pioneer worthy lace trims, delicate floral prints, high necklines, pretty calico yoke blouses, long hemlines, gingham prints and Little House on the Prairie-esc patchwork patterns in sun-faded shades.

Prairie style is one part romantic and feminine and one part wild rugged free-spirit.  It’s boho meets pure hard working country.

The key to pulling off the Westworld inspired trend is all in the styling. Wear a yoke print blouse with a pair of boyfriend jeans or a pretty prairie dress with a pair of chunky boots or a long tiered prairie skirt with a ruffled top.  Denim is always a good choice to pair with this trend, make sure it has some good sun-faded texture, and you can never go wrong with a saddle bag by your side.   Experiment with mixing different sized prairie florals that are in the same color range to create prairie perfection.  Stay away from cowboy boots so that your look doesn’t become too western, instead opt for wood sandals, lace up boho boots, suede booties and please NO cowboy hats!
