Dress for Success

Akris Belted Midi Dress

Last week I attended the annual Dress for Success “Road to the Sun” Luncheon at the Four Seasons Las Vegas.

Dress for Success is a cause that is very close to my fashion loving heart.  I know from first hand experience that clothing can make ALL the difference in how you feel, your state of mind, behavior and outlook on the world.  When you look good you feel good.

Some of you may not be familiar with this incredible charitable organization- of which a chapter can be found pretty much anywhere WORLDWIDE- so I wanted to give you a little bit of background.

Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

A lot of people know them as the organization that gives suits to women for job interviews but that’s just one aspect of what they do.

Clients are referred to Dress for Success by more than 3,000 non-profit organizations worldwide such as domestic violence agencies, homeless shelters, schools and job-training programs.

Each Dress for Success client gets a personal stylist to work with in the boutique. They talk about the position she is interviewing for and her personal style preferences. The stylist then helps her choose clothing that would be appropriate for the interview and makes her feel confident and polished.  They provide her with one free business suit, as well as the appropriate accessories, footwear, undergarments and cosmetic/toiletry items.

Once she successfully lands the job, she is invited back to the boutique to create her professional wardrobe – a week’s worth of clothing for her to wear and mix-and-match at her new job.

The suiting process has a transformative effect on many women – they can now literally see themselves as confident, valuable, professional women. It’s a huge boost to their self-esteem.

How can you help?

  • Volunteer- Volunteers are the backbone of Dress for Success.  Contact a local chapter about becoming an image consultant or boutique assistant.  You can also donate your professional services such as hairstylists, manicurists, estheticians, dentists, doctors, optometrists, attorneys, etc.
  • Donations- Dress for Success accepts new or gently-used professional woman’s clothing. While they focus on suits and blouses, they also accept handbags, accessories, dress pants, dress skirts, shoes and new hosiery, undergarments and make-up.

You have the power to change someone’s life through fashion!  Get involved no matter if it’s by dropping off a dress, volunteering or donating your services.  In fact, I am donating my services on Thursday at a Dress for Success event.

Ok that’s my pitch to get involved, now on to this week’s Outfit of the Day.

This gorgeous Akris shirt dress is what I wore to the Dress for Success luncheon.  It is PROOF that wait-listing works.

I saw it listed on TheRealReal.com and fell in love but didn’t get it in my cart fast enough and someone else bought it!

Tears of regret ensued.  I wait-listed it just in case and a week later I received an email that it was back in stock!

Yaas!  Click add to cart and buy!

It is super versatile- easy to pair with heels, a clutch and jewels for a luncheon and equally as fantastic with sneakers and a tote for day!
