Spice up Your T-Shirt Game with a Patterned Tee

There is nothing like an easy, breezy and totally versatile t-shirt on a summer day, but plain and graphic t-shirts aren’t the only game in town!  An easy way to breathe new life into your summer wardrobe repertoire is to add in a patterned tee.

There is something about a patterned tee that feels a bit more “grown-up” than it’s little sister the graphic tee. Patterned tees have all the style of a blouse but all the ease of a t-shirt. Perfect for upping the chic factor of a casual look or a great companion to an office look when worn with some high-waisted paper-bag style trousers.

When shopping for one make sure to keep it chic and sophisticated.  Stay away from prints that look like anything you would find on a playground.

Florals, botanicals and scarf patterns are the world you want to be sitting in when it comes to this trend.

I look for colors that will easily combine with other pieces I already have in my wardrobe and that have a luxe feel to them- of course anything with a retro vibe is always a good idea.

I snagged this patterned tee for $4 at TJ Maxx last week.  The print reminded me of a classic Hermes scarf and the color palette works with just about everything in my closet.

It’s an effortless and pocket friendly way to change things up!

Easy Summer Retro Vibes

This warm weather has me feeling all sorts of Retro Vibes.

There is something so perfectly summer about a vintage tee paired with a retro color palette.  It easy, chic, says vacation, begs for a road trip and encourages a little adventure.

Vintage looks are so totally on trend this season.  Fashion designers from A to Z have hit the archives this season to give designs from days gone by a comeback.  Gucci is gushing the retro aesthetic and Tory Burch based the whole season on interior decorator David Hicks designs from the 60s and 70s.

I personally am an avid vintage shopper but if you don’t have the patience to hit the thrift and vintage shops you can create the look with both designer and reproduced pieces as well.

The key to creating a fun retro vibe with color is zeroing in on the shades, patterns and prints of a particular era. I LOVE those mid-century modern greens, mustards, oranges and browns.

Let those colors flow through your look then incorporate more modern pieces to keep the look current and contemporary. Keep in mind it’s less about matching and more about complimenting.

Embrace the kitsch and cuddle up with the whimsy that’s what summer is all about! And always remember my #1 style tip:  Wear the wrong shoes. I know it sounds silly but that contrast can make a look.  Swap out your high heels for flat booties, your sneakers for high heels and your sandals for sneakers. The more wrong it feels, the more right it usually is.
