Shades of Fall: Russet Orange, Crocus Petal and Meerkat

Shades of Fall: Russet Orange, Crocus Petal and Meerkat

Oh yes I have all those Fall feels.

The weather has finally and officially turned to Autumn, the leaves are changing colors, I’m neck deep in pumpkin everything, Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas are ready to go in the DVR and I have rotated my wardrobe to encompass all the fall shades.

Fall colors are so rich, warm and comforting.  There is something utterly magical about these deeply earthy, dusty shades.  You can’t help but feel uber chic when wearing them.

A few weeks ago I shared how Ceylon Yellow has been dubbed one of Fall 2018’s top colors by Pantone- the color experts- and this week I’m introducing you to three more of Pantone’s must-have shades for the season: Russet Orange, Crocus Petal and Meerkat.  At first glance you might be inclined to think these three shades won’t work together but when combined they actually create a stunning and perfectly suited Fall palette.

PANTONE 16-1255 Russet Orange

A beautiful orange, slightly more red than yellow, Russet Orange seems primed to take over as the new bold organic du jour — Pantone links it to nature and foliage, noting, “This forest floor orange speaks to earthen warmth.”

PANTONE 15-3520 CROCUS PETAL

A delicate, energetic floral shade, Crocus Petal feels like the sweet, barely subdued understudy to Ultraviolet. Pantone calls it, “A cultivated and refined hue [that] adds a light and airy spring-like feeling.”

PANTONE 16-1438 Meerkat

Meerkat, a classic shade that exudes warmth and is highly adaptable.  Pantone describes it as “A toasty burnished brown”

Fall Trend Alert Ceylon Yellow

Each season Pantone, the global authority on all things color conducts extensive research on color trends.

They poll décor and fashion designers, as well as manufacturers and retailers, on what colors they plan to use to pick the color of the coming season, calculate their findings and they create a Fashion Color Trend Report which highlights the key color stories for the season.

For Fall 2018, Pantone highlighted the top ten trending colors (Red Pear, Valiant Poppy, Nebulas Blue, Martini Olive, Russet Orange, Ultra Violet, Crocus Petal, Limelight, Quetezal Green and Ceylon Yellow) , as well as five more classic core colors (Sargasso Sea, Tofu, Almond Buff, Quiet Gray, and Meerkat), which can easily be mixed and matched, making them ideal wardrobe bases.

Pantone categorizes them as “Autumnal hues that evoke the feeling of leaves on the forest floor, rich plumage and twilight reveal a modern fall palette of deep and rich tones with outbursts of colorful surprise.”

One of those colorful surprises is Ceylon Yellow.

Ceylon Yellow

Ceylon Yellow is “savory and spicy”,  not sunshine bright yellow or flashy neon yellow, it’s a little more of a muted and exotic type of yellow, making it extremely wearable for everyday.

This rich silky hue of mustard yellow sits somewhere between the true yellow of gold and the greenish undertones of brass. A PERFECT color for Fall.

So how to you wear it?  If you are fashion-brave you can go head-to-toe with it but, for me, I like to take a more subtle approach to the shade and wear Ceylon Yellow is as an accent color.

Incorporate this tangy hue into your look with a bag, a print or a pattern. Use it as the unifying color to mix daringly different prints and create a cohesive look or as an unexpected pop of color when paired with shades such as Red Pear, Martini Olive, Russet Orange, Sargasso Sea, Almond Buff and Meerkat!
