Fashion Color Challenge

Although it feels like months, we are almost two weeks into the Las Vegas Lockdown.

Our Governor set a 30 day closure on all non-essential businesses as of noon on March 18th (although my freelance jobs started cancelling about a week before that). Casinos closed for the first time in HISTORY! Yes, for the first time in it’s 75 year plus gaming history Las Vegas casinos went dark. I never thought I would see that!  The roads are empty, hair salons, malls and bars have all closed their doors. Schools are vacant and lines to get supplies are insane at places like Target and COSTCO.

At first I was checking my phone and the news every hour for updates on the state of things but now I have limited myself to a once a day update because it was causing too much stress and anxiety. I wash my hands like a fiend, douse myself in hand sanitizer, wear rubber gloves if I have to run to the store (I don’t have a mask because you can’t find them anywhere) and open any packages outside then spray the contents with Lysol before bringing them inside.

This is our crazy new normal and we have to settle into it for awhile.

Settling into the new normal doesn’t mean sinking into a bra-less life of no-makeup and a curated collection of lounge sets- although the ads on my Instagram feed would have you thinking otherwise.  Seriously, is anyone else’s feed a who’s who of ads for sweatpants and lounge set manufacturers?

I think we all need a little escape from the “Rona” and what better escape than fashion! This week I want to do a little fashion-psychology experiment and I need your help!

My fashion color challenge is to see how color affects your mood this week.

Artists, fashion and interior designers have long believed that color can dramatically affect moods, feelings, and emotions.

Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions,” -Pablo Picasso

Color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood, manage stress levels and even influence physiological reactions. Certain colors have been associated with increased blood pressure, increased metabolism, and eyestrain.

I want you to pick a different color to wear each day for the next five days and let me know how each made you feel.

MONDAY wear YELLOW: This is the happiest of all the colors and stimulates joy.

TUESDAY wear BLUE: This is the color of truth and wisdom. It has a calming effect and is linked to intellect. It’s also the most stable color which makes you feel grounded.

WEDNESDAY wear GREEN: This color denotes freshness, safety and harmony. A feeling of being at one with nature.

THURSDAY wear PURPLE: Purple reminds people of royalty and luxury. It’s also the color of magic. This will give you that dash of “extra” you’ve been missing since the lockdown.

FRIDAY wear ORANGE: Orange is a color of stimulation and enthusiasm. Orange is a nice mix of red’s passion and yellow’s joy. Research has found that orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an energizing effect, and stimulates brain activity.

Take my Fashion Color Challenge and then DM me or tag me with your outfits on INSTAGRAM I want to know how these colors made YOU feel!

Stay Healthy and Stay HOME my friends!

Loose and Draped Dress Silhouette

One of the most perfect summer 2019 fashion trends is the draped dress silhouette.

Simple designs, with a loose draped feel make perfect sense for warm weather days (and nights).

These barely there dresses feel and look luxurious, but they are comfortable, feather-light and can be perfect;y dressed down for day or elevated with jewelry and heels for an evening out or a special event.

The key to mastering the trend is really effortless!

Look for dresses that drape simply over the body (nothing too tight or structured) and have a nostalgic feel or vintage-esc print. Anything that feels like it’s from a fabulous vacay gone by.  It should just gently graze the body, feel billowy and be so comfortable that you could mistake it for a nightgown.

Belt your draped dress to give it shape or “let it be” loose and free.  This oh-so-versatile silhouette will totally bend to your mood and personal style.

It is by far one of the most wearable trends of summer 2019

Forum Shops Spring Blogger Event Recap

Last week myself and 7 of Las Vegas’ top Influencers/Bloggers were hosted by the Forum Shops at Caesars for a Spring shopping tour.

One of my favorite things to do is to meet up with other bloggers to share insights, chat about how much we all hate algorithms (lol), have a few cocktails and of course SHOP- everything really is better with friends right!  If you follow me on Instagram you saw snippets of our tour in my stories but now it’s time for the main event.

We dubbed this “the Champagne Campaign” because there was yummy Champagne and Mimosa’s at every stop!

First up was Rimowa.  A leader in technology, known for their light and strong grooved luggage, this iconic German company was the first to use aluminum and then in later years polycarbonate in its designs. They also pioneers the use of the patented, ball bearing-mounted Multiwheel system. With it, even heavy cases can be turned and rotated effortlessly in any direction.

Seriously these babies wheel around like a dream!  I was amazed at how easy it was to maneuver this suitcase even in a tight space.  I am constantly dragging suitcases around packed full of wardrobe and struggling with them- unable to turn and always them tipping over- pulling this baby was like going from driving a 15 passenger van to a sleek sports car!  From Flintstones to Jetsons…..I know what my next investment piece will be!

Rimowa has these fun  sticker books- and a wall of cool stickers like the Las Vegas one on the suitcase above that let you customize and add some flair to your piece.

They set our group loose with the stickers to decorate a piece and this was our creation…….

Next up was Club Monaco.  I have been a HUGE fan of Club Monaco for decades but we never had one here in Las Vegas until recently!

Known for its thoughtfully designed, purposeful collections featuring relevant, wearable pieces, fine fabrics and exceptional fits this high street retailer offers luxe pieces at affordable prices.

The Spring 2019 Club Monaco Collection is called “Breath of Fresh Air” which focuses on breezy dresses, lightweight knitwear and feather light fabrics. A color palette of ocean greens and tranquil blues works perfectly for the spring season.

I’ve been all-in on neutrals lately and Club Monaco serves it up in glorious waves!  You saw the GORGEOUS ocean-hued dress I got at this event in my OOTD last week. I can’t even explain how luxe the fabric feels- you really need to pop into the store and touch it for yourself.

Onto Robert Graham.

Robert Graham is all about COLOR.  Their instantly identifiable shirts crafted with unique garment-making techniques and complex textile patterns are the top choice of men who like a little eclectic pop to their look but did you know they launched a WOMENS collection … and that it’s so dang amazing.

My jaw dropped when I saw this collection.  I had no idea Robert Graham had even launched a womens collection! The patterns, the colors, the prints!  My print mixing loving self was in heaven.

The collection includes, wrap dresses, tailored shirts, jackets, kimono tops, palazzo pants, shorts and fun Hawaiian style camp shirts in tropical colors and textures with boldly adventurous patterns and classic yet unexpected twists.  Its the perfect blending of a feminine viewpoint with the spirit, color and charismatic style that defines Robert Graham.

I was totally obsessed with the womens collection but these mens swim trucks were also a standout for me.

When you first look at them they are sold but once they get wet they reveal a spray paint wall graffiti print with the RG logo.  So fun!

We wrapped the tour up at one of my favorite dining spots, Sushi Roku who just launched a VEGAN OMAKASE Menu- yes my Vegan friends you can have a four course Omakase VEGAN meal at Sushi Roku and it’s delish.

We sampled the yummy Vegan menu which I really enjoyed.  It was light but totally filling, satisfying and packed full of flavor.

Then we were treated to a Sushi making class by Sushi Roku’s Head Sushi Chef where we learned the secret to great sushi is using Japanese rice- which is grown in California lol.  Japanese rice has a short polish grain which is what makes it perfect for sushi.

This event was one of the most amazing whirl-wind tours I have ever been on. Thank you so much to The Forum Shops for putting together such a fun series of activities!

Southwestern Vibes

Southwestern Vibes

The American Southwest has inspired artists and musicians for decades so is it really any surprise that the fashion industry has picked up the mantle and incorporated the unmistakable earthy boho style into their SS19 runways?

Iconic fashion houses and buzzworthy newcomers alike sent models down the S/S 19 runways clad in pieces that seemed straight out of a Georiga O’Keefe painting.

Ralph Lauren Collection’s 50th-anniversary event featured interwoven fringed knits cinched at the waist with concha belts. Coach 1941 included patchwork denim dresses accessorized with sand-colored suede booties. And of-the-moment label Brock Collection showed ruffled full-skirted separates in sunset hues.

The key to embracing those Southwestern Vibes is to choose pieces in a palette that is inspired by desert hues. That means, earthy and neutral hues- colors like caramel, terracotta, rust, clay, and layer them with lighter earthy colors such as sand, taupe and beige.

Dusty pink highlights work great together with the desert palette and you can add more interest to the palette with some pops of teal, purple, cyan blue, and turquoise, inspired also by natural elements of the landscapes such as sky and stones.

Include iconic Southwestern elements such as Navajo prints, western boots, serape weaving, macrame accents, embroidery, denim, cactus motifs, turquoise jewels and of course fringe!

It’s all about embracing the traveler, dreamer, wanderer aesthetic and balancing that within your own personal style whether that be minimalist, maximalist, edgy or feminine.

The Perfect Fall Fabric Corduroy

The Perfect Fall Fabric Corduroy

If you look past all the animal prints and western vibes you’ll notice another trend that is unavoidable this season: corduroy.

Corduroy was all over the Fall 2018 runways in a variety of shades from rich autumn burgundies, meerkat and ceylon yellow to martini olive and luxe ulta violet. Prada showed their autumn/winter 2018 men’s collection wearing brown cords with chunky patterned knits, Isabel Marant presented models in the most glorious green straight legged trousers  and street stylers everywhere have adopted stiff cords as the new denim.

This close cousin of velvet really is THE PERFECT Fall fabric and is a must-have in both mens and womens trends this season. (Corduroy is basically a ridged form of velvet. Both materials are derived from fustian fabric, a heavy cloth woven from cotton- in fact corduroy is also known as ribbed velvet).

With designers delivering so many ways to incorporate the fabric into your wardrobe, whether you rock it in the form of trousers, suiting, matching sets, an a-line skirt or outerwear, there is no excuse to skip this trend.

Stylist Tip: Because Corduroy is so rigid and heavy it works best when you soften it’s appearance by pairing with silky soft fabrics or an oh-so-on-trend fitted turtleneck.
