Some of the best things about fall are the smells that come with it — smoky fires, pumpkins, cinnamon and of course, leather.
According to fragrance experts, the hottest trend for Fall 2017 in fragrance is masculine-influenced scents with notes of leather.
The sensual scent of leather makes it’s mark this season in the form of unisex fragrances providing smoothness, warmth and an animalistic quality for both him and her to share.
In the world of fragrance, leather notes are in a category all their own.
Historically, leather is one of the earliest notes in perfumery. During the 16th century leather gloves were perfumed with oils, musk, ambergris and civet to cover the scent of the tanned hides.
Although it lands on the fragrance scale in the “woodsy” notes category, leather fragrance is unique because it doesn’t grow in a forest, garden, field or jungle which means it can’t be harvested, expelled, cold-pressed, or cultivated.
It’s a man-made note meant to mimic the smell of leather created from naturally derived notes combined with those synthesized in a lab.
Exciting, intoxicating, comforting, sensual and unique adding a leather scent to your fragrance arsenal this season is a MUST!
Stylists Tip: Your Fall/Winter Fragrance should be bolder and stronger than your summer one so that it will be able to stand out against the layers and layers of scarves, jackets and sweaters.
I sniffed my way through Neiman Marcus for you to gather the BEST Leather Fragrances for Fall 2017:
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. A unisex fragrance inspired by Tom Ford’s love of fine leather, this ultra-sexy scent captures the animalistic scent of leather. With Notes of Saffron, raspberry, thyme, night-blooming jasmine, leather, black suede, and amber wood it is rich, sophisticated, mysterious and oh so Tom Ford.
Armani Prive Cuir Noir is inspired by the splendors of the Orient where leather is an art. Notes include sandalwood, rose, coriander, nutmeg, guaiac wood, oud, leather, vanilla and benzoin. It is soft and elegant, and it surprises with a relatively prominent oud note. During its long wear-time this unisex fragrance develops dramatically, from cool and distant oud-leather scent to a warm, almost gourmand vanilla-benzoin base to snuggle into. Exotic, warm and addictive.
Atelier Gold Leather. Full disclosure here, I am super biased about this brand. Atelier is my own personal favorite fragrance line. All of their colognes are unisex and made of the highest quality ingredients and they always have fantastic stories to represent each of their scents that really sets the mood. “A man of such great power and charisma could have anything he asked. Despite it all, he could not have the only thing he really wanted. For the first time in his life, he had found the absolue woman and he was a better man for it. He would not let her go. Anything but that. He would trade all the gold in the world to be with her.” Notes include: bitter orange from Seville, Indian saffron, Jamaican rum, plum, davana from India, eucalyptus from California, heart of gaiac wood from India, heart of cedarwood from Texas, leather & oud accord. Oh my oh my so sexy and delish. A perfect Fall scent.
Molton Brown Russian Leather. This isn’t a fragrance you spray on, it is one you bathe in. Fresh pine oil mingles with aged leather accord, smoky black tea and deep tobacco uplifted by fresh elemi, vetiver and spicy purple basil. It must be the pine oil combined with the leather that makes me think of being in a cabin on a snowy night in front of the fire.
Yves Saint Laurent Cuir. Another Unisex scent, Cuir (which means leather in French) captures the rock ‘n’ roll aspects of leather. With guaiac wood, saffron, rum, tobacco, ginger, black tea, osmanthus and oud wood. Yves Saint Laurent calls thier frangrance collection a “fragrance wardrobe” and this scent definitely feels like you are slipping into the chicest most bad-ass leather jacket to ever hit the runway.
All of these Must-Have Leather Fragrances are Available at Neiman Marcus.
