DIY Hand Mask to Keep Your Hands Moisturized During “Rona” Season

Washing your hands shouldn’t be a trend. But here we are, friends.

My hands have been so DRY, with all this constant hand washing and applying sanitizer they look like an SFX aging makeup experiment.  Lotion helps but it’s not always easy to apply lotion after every washing because 5 minutes later you will be washing again!  My hands need something EXTRA.

If your hands are dry and cracking (like mine) I have some DIY relief for those Crypt Keeper paws and everything you need can be found right there in your kitchen- carrots oil and honey. A DIY Hand Mask to Keep Your Hands Moisturized During “Rona” Season.

Carrots are rich in antioxidants which increase cell turnover, brighten skin and reduce inflammation; when you include them in a homemade mask, they help to tone and rejuvenate.

The honey will moisturize your skin and the oil helps all the ingredients blend together smoothly.  This can be fun for the whole family to do during a streaming marathon.

Let’s get started.

What You Need: (This is for 1 mask)

2-3 Large Carrots

1 TSP. Almond Oil or Olive Oil

2 TSP. Honey

Rubber Cleaning Gloves

*(If you don’t have rubber gloves you could use large plastic baggies. Note- this won’t work with tight latex gloves the mask will go everywhere- you need the space that rubber cleaning gloves or a baggie allows.)

What to Do:

STEP ONE:  Peel the carrots and slice them into small rounds. Boil the carrots in a small pot until they’re easily pierced with a fork. Drain the water away and pour the cooked carrot slices into a small bowl.

STEP TWO: Mash the carrots thoroughly with a fork or in a food processor.

STEP THREE: Add the honey and olive oil to the mashed carrots a little bit at a time and mix thoroughly until the mask is the consistency you like.  It should be moist but not runny, kind of like the texture of baby food.

STEP FOUR: Fill the rubber gloves with the mask- make sure to push it down into the fingers of the gloves.

STEP FIVE: Place your hands in the gloves for 15-20 minutes.  Sit back and relax.

STEP SIX: After 15-20 minutes remove hands from gloves, rinse and pat dry.  They will be soft, smooth and oh so hydrated!

Mad Hippie Rebels of Skincare

Did you know that what we put on our skin doesn’t just sit on the surface, it travels through an elaborate absorption process, directly into our bodies which is why it is SUPER important to use as clean of products as possible.

And it’s especially important to opt for clean ingredients in products that stay on your skin like serums, oils and moisturizers!

I have been slowly making a move to a more natural skincare regimen. Of course this isn’t going to happen with everything I use but I try to make sure that my key products, ones I use every single day, are as natural and clean as possible which is why I was so excited when I discovered Mad Hippie Skincare.

With a brand creed that reads “with a ‘buck the cosmetic establishment’ manifesto, a strong stance against animal cruelty, the belief that we are stewards of this planet and must treat our home and fellow beings with love and respect, and a unwavering belief in a brighter better tomorrow, Mad Hippie was born” who wouldn’t immediately buy this brand?!?

Not only are all Mad Hippie products cruelty free ALL of their products are also free from parabens, petrochemicals, animal ingredients, GMOs, phthalates, SLS, Synthetic Dye, perfume, PEGs and Silicone.

These rebels of skincare are so dedicated to their clean manifesto that they keep their ecological footprint as small as possible- they even use soy ink in their printing to reduce environmental impact, and donate $1 from very sale to The Wildlife Conservation Network.

Swoon!

This Portland-based skin care company is all about simplicity: all-natural, cruelty free, GMO free, and vegan (except for a small amount of beeswax in their SPF). They keep out all the bad but pack in as many good active ingredients into each product as possible, to ensure it’s not only something that won’t harm your skin, but also something that really works.

I joined their beauty revolution with three of their summer must-haves: Vitamin C Serum, Hydrating Nutrient Mist and Facial SPF.

Mad Hippie Skincare

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum

As far as I am concerned, EVERYONE should be using a Vitamin C serum daily. This antioxidant will help protect and treat your skin from sun damage while also helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration.

Mad Hippie’s award winning blend contains Vitamin C PLUS Vitamin E, ferulic acid, hyaluronic acid, grapefruit, chamomile extract, clary sage and Konjac root powder (softens and smooths skin), into an UBER effective skin brightening and tightening formula. The texture is lightweight and absorbs super easily into skin without any stickiness or greasiness.  You will be amazing at how bright and glowing your skin looks!

Mad Hippie Skincare

Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist

The Hydrating mist is super amazing too because you can use it on your whole body and not just your face, which is perfect for the dry air here in Vegas. Formulated with Hesperidin (a plant that has been shown to hep reduce the appearance of skin discoloration) Sodium PCA (a naturally occurring humecant which helps bind moisture to the skin) Ginkgo Bioba (powerful antioxidant) and Milk Thistle (calms redness and irritation) it hydrates, brightens and reduces irritation on the skin.  Spray it on a clean face in the morning or with a quick spritz over makeup in the afternoon for a quick pick-me-up.

Mad Hippie Skincare

Mad Hippie Facial SPF 30+

If you aren’t wearing a sunscreen on your face everyday we are gonna have to have words- and not good ones! Your skin needs to be protected every.. single.. day.  This sunscreen is zinc based- which is kind of the gold standard for natural SPF- and also includes a bunch of soothing ingredients like Red Raspberry Seed Oil ( provides natural antioxidants while soothing and moisturizing the skin.), Carrot Seed Oil (Soothing antioxidant oil perfect for sun lovers), Avocado Oil (forms a protective barrier over the skin while it naturally hydrates and soothes), Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid (same antioxidant powerhouse trio found in their vitamin C serum), Shea Butter (a rich source of the powerful antioxidants vitamin A & E, as well as crucial fatty acids), Jasmine Oil (shown to have an uplifting, energizing, aromatherapeutic effect, jasmine oil helps to balance moisture), Sodium Hyaluronate (the salt of hyaluronic acid (HA) has been shown to have better skin penetrating capabilities than HA alone. Works to moisturize the skin while reducing the appearance of wrinkles). It has an AMAZING light jasmine scent, goes on clear, feels super lightweight and leaves no greasy residue.

Nothing makes me happier than discovering a brand with great ethics and incredible products that deliver results every time! Check out Mad Hippie’s full product range at MadHippie.com
