Green Inside and Out

Green Inside and Out

Plants are magical.  Not only do they produce oxygen (which we need to live) they also provide us with food, shelter, medicine, fuel and are a key component in beauty products!

…and the world is finally acknowledging how important they are!

Plant-based options are all the rage when it comes to what we eat, and the beauty world is no different. High-quality, clean ingredients are no longer simply a trend; they’re a requirement. Many brands are trying to reduce the amount of chemicals used in their products by replacing them with clean, naturally derived ingredients.

I’m sure you have heard of Meatless Monday which encourages people to cut out meat once a week in order to improve health, save money and heal the planet. Why not take Meatless Monday one step further and carry that over to your beauty routine.

By making small changes like this we can impact our own well-being and the health of the planet. We can be GREEN on the inside and out!

To help you kick-off your “Go Green” journey, I stopped by two of my favorites at Fashion Show, Opa! of Greece and LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics to share some of my plant based favorites to help you get started nurturing your inner and outer glow.

LUSH AVOBATH BATH BOMB

Of course, there HAD to be a bath bomb here, LUSH is famous for them! This zippy green fizzy delivers a sunny dose of invigorating lemongrass and bergamot essential oils. Made from freshly mashed avocados (which provide deep hydration and moisturization to your skin) and organic extra virgin olive oil it leaves your soft, hydrated skin and totally renewed!

Plant Based Meals

OPA! of GREECE GREEK SALAD

The humble tomato is full of surprising perks for your skin, your gut, and more. A single tomato can provide about 40% of the daily recommended minimum of vitamin C. What’s more, tomatoes supply vitamin A, which supports immunity, vision, and skin health; vitamin K, which is good for your bones; and potassium, a key nutrient for heart function, muscle contractions, and maintaining a healthy blood pressure and fluid balance.

They are also a skin anti-aging helper! Tomatoes are packed full of antioxidants which help reduce the amount of cell-damaging free-radicals in the body and give you youthful-looking skin. They also fight cellular damage which helps the skin retain moisture, thereby, preventing fine lines and wrinkles.

LUSH MANTALBANO SHAMPOO BAR

The beauty industry is going NUTS right now over Shampoo Bars. With consumers becoming more mindful of packaging waste and water consumption, formulas that use less water are increasing in popularity.

Much like a bar body cleanser, a shampoo bar is activated by water but contains ingredients that are suited for removing oil and product build-up while meeting the needs of different hair textures.

Instead of pouring a liquid shampoo into your hair, you can either work the bar into a lather in the palm of your hands and then work the foam through from roots to ends; or, for lower-lather formulas, rub the bar directly onto roots while water runs over your hair. Once your strands are coated in the cleanser, massage the shampoo into your roots and through the ends of hair to loosen debris and dirt, and then rinse thoroughly.

My favorite is LUSH’s MANTALBANO Bar. This Mediterranean marvel boosts shine, adds subtle volume, cleanses your scalp and leaves you smelling lemon-rosemary fresh.

Green Inside and Out

OPA! of GREECE HUMMUS AND CUCUMBERS

Not only are cucumbers literally green inside and out, they are also packed with nutrients. In just a single cup of cucumber slices, you’ll get 14% to 19% of the vitamin K you need for the day. You’ll also get vitamins B and C along with minerals like copper, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. So, the next time you reach for that yummy hummus switch out the pita bread for cucumbers!

LUSH

LUSH OUTBACK MATE SOAP

This gorgeous handmade, palm-free, true blue beauty will put a smile on your face with the refreshing tingle of peppermint and the uplifting aroma of lemongrass. Eucalyptus gently cleanses your skin and brightens your mood, making this one your best mate to wash away the blues and leave you feeling fresh.

OPA! GREECE FALAFEL SNACK BITES AND HUMMUS

One cup of chickpeas (which hummus is made of) contains 10 grams of protein and about 10 grams of dietary fiber—which is 40% of the daily minimum target. They are also packed with antioxidants and help to improve gut health!

Being green inside and out starts with small changes,  like adding one plant-based meal to your weekly food menu or subbing out a few of your cosmetics for plant based beauty products. By making these small changes you will help to reduce your eco-footprint.
