Modern Love: The Romantic Trend

Jane Austin and Holly Hobby would be so down with the SS19 fashion line-up.

Romance is alive and well in the fashion industry as evidenced by the amount of ruffles, puffed sleeves, and flowery prints you will see this season.

For SS19 designers melded the sweet with the sensual, the Victorian with the country– think billowy sleeves set-off by sheer panels and lace, high necklines tempered by peekaboo cut-outs patchwork details and floaty hemlines.

As always the key to pulling off the look is all in the pairing.

Remember my number one fashion tip?  Always wear the wrong shoes. Pair boots or flat shoes with a romantic look rather than stilettos to give the look a grounded feel.  Mix and match soft flowy fabrics with edgier ones- cotton with silk or chiffon with denim.

Look for longer skirt lengths, higher necklines and anything with ruffles.  Think designers like Batsheva, Doen, ETRO, Erdem, Chloe and Ulla Johnson- they know how to do this trend right.

Once you have a firm grasp of it don’t be afraid to combine high with low, new with old.  This is how you create a look that is memorable.

You know all those prairie pieces you bought last summer?  Well, I have some good news for your wallet they are totally re-wearable and fit right into this trend.  Lean all the way in and add pearl barrettes and layered necklaces to really kick it up a notch.

The Romantic Trend is oh so wearable, makes you feel fancy AF (it’s chic but totally comfortable), looks great on all ages and all body types, is easy to incorporate into any personal style and may be just the dose of romance and whimsy your spring wardrobe is calling for.

Fall Trends: It’s a Wild Western Plaid Plaid World

Western and Plaid Fashion Trends

Get ready to hear two words from me over and over and over again this season, western and plaid.

These two predominant trends have crept their way into just about every other trend of Fall 2018 and are completely taking over.

The metallic trend has western inspired boots, the suiting trend is an explosion of plaid, the animal print trend has western whip stitching, the 90s grunge trend of course has plaid, and the floral trend has western silhouettes.  everything is coming up western and plaid this season… pl-estern? Pla-stern?

Well whatever you choose to call it plaid + western = fashion success this season.

The western and plaid fashion trends give you all the ingredients you need for an easy fall pairing with a boho sensibility. Try a yoke detailed plaid print blouse with a pair of boyfriend jeans, a pretty plaid prairie dress with a pair of metal tipped cowboy boots or a long tiered floral prairie skirt with a plaid ruffled top.  Denim is always a good choice to pair with this trend, make sure it has some good sun-faded texture, and you can never go wrong with a saddle bag by your side.   Experiment with mixing different sized western plaids that are in the same color range to create straight off the runway perfection.

Designer Spotlight- I want to start introducing you all to some new brands that I love but that you may not be familiar with starting with one of my favorites: DOEN. DOEN is a collective of creative Los Angeles based women who make elevated yet wearable pieces for the everyday. The line is inspired by vintage designs they offer flattering, easy silhouettes in luxe fabrics and approachable prices.  It is an amazing company who not only offers the chicest boho babe clothing around but also has a strong commitment to supporting women. At their launch EVERY single factory partnership they have is either women owned or co-owned.  To extent their commitment to closing the gender gap to the communities where their clothing is produced they partnered with ROOM TO READ.  each season they design a children’s style and donate 100% of those profits to benefit ROOM TO READ who’s mission is to promote literacy and gender equality.  ROOM TO READ works with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and supports girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond.
