Eyewear Trends That Will Have You Seeing 2020 in Style

Eyewear Trends

It’s time to start seeing things clearly; to bring your vision into focus with eyewear that is chic, cool, on trend and totally YOU.

There’s nothing better than finding that one accessory that makes you feel totally you, that little extra something that gives you more confidence than anything else in your closet.  Why shouldn’t that be your eyewear? You wear your glasses every single day, they should be an extension of your personal style- not just an afterthought. The right shape of eyewear can literally make or break an outfit!

Eyewear styles have really upped the ante on chic spectacles for 2020. From rectangular to round, tortoiseshell to metal, this season’s optical trends are sure to catch your eye. I stopped into LensCrafters at Fashion Show to get the 411 on what’s hot and what’s not in optical.

Let’s talk trends.

Eyewear Trends

Transparent

One of the biggest trends is transparent/translucent frames. Clear transparent frames have been hot for a few seasons and will continue to be hipster-chic in 2020, but we will also see transparent styles in crystal clear hues of burgundy, rose, gray, green and brown. Translucent frames are super versatile because they almost act as a neutral, and pair well with most outfits: a great classic to have in your wardrobe. (Versace style: 3276)

Aviators

A trend that has really been building steam over the last couple seasons  is women wearing men’s frames, both in optical and sunglasses.  Crossing gender barriers more and more women are using men’s aviators as their optical of choice which makes sense considering menswear inspiration is so HUGE in fashion right now.  Combining their long heritage with the edgy millennial attitude, aviators deliver a prompt style boost for both women and men alike. Newly equipped with on-trend coloration complements every style that indulges every new look. (Michael Kors style: Procida)

Round Metal Wire

Harry Potter, but make it fashion. Yes, these round, wire-rimmed glasses are extra nerdy, but that’s the whole point. Round glasses evoke a sense of smart style and sophistication for both men and women and create a vibe that is retro yet totally modern. A quick tip, when buying round glasses make sure that your eyebrows aren’t completely showing through your lenses. This a fashion no-no! Also, round glasses should not sit on your cheeks. Topline or Browline Spectacles

Think Horned Rim glasses but chic them up. This classic style has been ramped up and crafted from high quality lightweight material for 2020. It’s like your everyday optics and your favorite pair of sunglasses had a baby! Because of the lack of a distinct bottom edge, these guys add softness to prominent facial features. (RayBan style: 3716)

70s Inspired Design

Retro styles are all the rage! Many iconic frame styles are back, with a contemporary twist. Big, bold, geometric, and oh so fashion-forward,  they’re easy for anyone to pull off. This is the style you’ll see walking down the runways at Gucci, Valentino and FENDI this season. Think of them as your favorite oversized sunglasses, but for the indoors. (Valentino style: VA4053).

Tech Relief- Blue Light Protection

More and more optical (and non-optical) wearers are becoming concerned with blue light protection. Anytime you look at an unfiltered digital screen(your computer, your smart phone, tablet, etc), a portion of the light your eyes are absorbing is in the blue wavelength. Blue light — the strongest portion of the visible spectrum — is all around us all the time, but with most of us spending more and more of our waking hours staring at a screen these days, the strong blue light coming from screens can potentially harm your vision and result in “digital eyestrain” which causes loss of sleep and sleep quality, along with a host of other potential problems. By adding blue filter lenses, you can help relieve the issues that come from excess blue light.

Forum Shops Spring Blogger Event Recap

Forum Shops Spring Blogger Event Recap

Last week myself and 7 of Las Vegas’ top Influencers/Bloggers were hosted by the Forum Shops at Caesars for a Spring shopping tour.

One of my favorite things to do is to meet up with other bloggers to share insights, chat about how much we all hate algorithms (lol), have a few cocktails and of course SHOP- everything really is better with friends right!  If you follow me on Instagram you saw snippets of our tour in my stories but now it’s time for the main event.

We dubbed this “the Champagne Campaign” because there was yummy Champagne and Mimosa’s at every stop!

First up was Rimowa.  A leader in technology, known for their light and strong grooved luggage, this iconic German company was the first to use aluminum and then in later years polycarbonate in its designs. They also pioneers the use of the patented, ball bearing-mounted Multiwheel system. With it, even heavy cases can be turned and rotated effortlessly in any direction.

Seriously these babies wheel around like a dream!  I was amazed at how easy it was to maneuver this suitcase even in a tight space.  I am constantly dragging suitcases around packed full of wardrobe and struggling with them- unable to turn and always them tipping over- pulling this baby was like going from driving a 15 passenger van to a sleek sports car!  From Flintstones to Jetsons…..I know what my next investment piece will be!

Rimowa has these fun  sticker books- and a wall of cool stickers like the Las Vegas one on the suitcase above that let you customize and add some flair to your piece.

They set our group loose with the stickers to decorate a piece and this was our creation…….

Next up was Club Monaco.  I have been a HUGE fan of Club Monaco for decades but we never had one here in Las Vegas until recently!

Known for its thoughtfully designed, purposeful collections featuring relevant, wearable pieces, fine fabrics and exceptional fits this high street retailer offers luxe pieces at affordable prices.

The Spring 2019 Club Monaco Collection is called “Breath of Fresh Air” which focuses on breezy dresses, lightweight knitwear and feather light fabrics. A color palette of ocean greens and tranquil blues works perfectly for the spring season.

I’ve been all-in on neutrals lately and Club Monaco serves it up in glorious waves!  You saw the GORGEOUS ocean-hued dress I got at this event in my OOTD last week. I can’t even explain how luxe the fabric feels- you really need to pop into the store and touch it for yourself.

Onto Robert Graham.

Robert Graham is all about COLOR.  Their instantly identifiable shirts crafted with unique garment-making techniques and complex textile patterns are the top choice of men who like a little eclectic pop to their look but did you know they launched a WOMENS collection … and that it’s so dang amazing.

My jaw dropped when I saw this collection.  I had no idea Robert Graham had even launched a womens collection! The patterns, the colors, the prints!  My print mixing loving self was in heaven.

The collection includes, wrap dresses, tailored shirts, jackets, kimono tops, palazzo pants, shorts and fun Hawaiian style camp shirts in tropical colors and textures with boldly adventurous patterns and classic yet unexpected twists.  Its the perfect blending of a feminine viewpoint with the spirit, color and charismatic style that defines Robert Graham.

I was totally obsessed with the womens collection but these mens swim trucks were also a standout for me.

When you first look at them they are sold but once they get wet they reveal a spray paint wall graffiti print with the RG logo.  So fun!

We wrapped the tour up at one of my favorite dining spots, Sushi Roku who just launched a VEGAN OMAKASE Menu- yes my Vegan friends you can have a four course Omakase VEGAN meal at Sushi Roku and it’s delish.

We sampled the yummy Vegan menu which I really enjoyed.  It was light but totally filling, satisfying and packed full of flavor.

Then we were treated to a Sushi making class by Sushi Roku’s Head Sushi Chef where we learned the secret to great sushi is using Japanese rice- which is grown in California lol.  Japanese rice has a short polish grain which is what makes it perfect for sushi.

I Wear My Sunglasses at Night: Summer Sunglass Trends

(at the end of this article don’t forget to enter to win! Last week’s winner is: Kat Munoz!  Congrats!)

Sunglasses are THE must-have accessory for summer, no matter what trend you follow.   Not only do they look cool, they hide wrinkles, protect you from the sun and shield you on non-makeup days!

It’s not about having the most expensive pair this season.  The goal is to add some fun, whimsy, color and personality to your eye-wear!   This summer you can’t go wrong with anything that feels retro or vintage.  Carrera, the sunglasses made famous on Miami Vice,  were all over the Fashion Week runways. Funky Ray-bans are being coveted by Celebrities and everywhere you look its ALL ABOUT COLOR!

(above: Lady Gaga in Carrera Navigators)

Selecting the right style/shape sunglasses can be a little overwhelming.  There are so many types out there!  To give you a little knowledge BEFORE you hit the stores I’ve narrowed the Summer Sunglass trends down to six styles/shapes: Wayfarer, Aviator, Navigator, Square, Over-sized Round and Modified Cat’s Eye.

Wayfarer.   Wayfarer’s were first designed by Ray-Ban in 1952. They were among the first plastic sunglasses ever made. Wayfarer’s were extremely popular up until the 1970’s, They didn’t regain popularity until the early 80’s when movie stars, like Tom Cruise in Risky Business, began wearing them.  Fashionable for both men and women Wayfarers are hot again but this time in bright colors like neon, red, white, bubble-gum pink, etc. Check out Ray-Bans “Rare Prints” collection for something really unique and Zooey Deschanel’s line “Zooey” with Oliver Peoples.

Aviator.  Aviators, also know as “Cop Shades”,  have an over sized teardrop-shaped lens (which looks similar to a pilots goggles) and a thin metal frame. The design was introduced in 1936 by  Ray-Ban  for issue to U.S. military pilots. Popular on both men and women.  This season make sure you have a pair with white frames!

(above: Ray-Ban  “Aviator” with white metal frame)

Navigator.  Another Unisex style, navigator shades are similar to aviators but sporty with a more squared off lens shape (not as droopy of a teardrop as the Aviator). You’ll see them in both metal and plastic frames in a variety of colors. This is the style sported on Miami Vice that made Carrera so popular in the 80’s.

(above: Carrera “Speedway” sunglasses)

Square.  Definitely THE HOTTEST TREND this season.  They look AMAZING on everyone!  Fashionable and they give you tons of coverage!  Every Celebrity and Socialite has a pair of these.  Great for staying Incognito.

(above: Derek Lam “Gemma” sunglasses)

(above: Eva Mendes in Square shades)

Over-sized Round.  Think Jackie O.  Choosing over sized  eye-wear can be tricky. Make sure to select a frame that doesn’t swallow your whole face. These styles are great for adding glamour to an ordinary outfit. I prefer the round wrap styles.

(above: D&G “MGD” sunglasses designed by Madonna)

Modified Cat’s Eye.  These aren’t your typical “Pink Ladies” cat’s eye glasses.  They are Bigger and Funkier!  Spotted on everyone from Lady Gaga to Scarlett Johansson lately these shades are HOT!

(above: Model Dree Hemingway in modified cat’s eye glasses)

(Budget tip:  Are the brand names and thoughts of prices scaring you?  Most of these shapes and styles can be found at Fred Flare www.fredflare.com  and H&M for under $20)

No matter what shape you choose remember to have fun with it! Sunglasses shouldn’t be just an accessory!  They should complete and compliment your look and personality.

I have an  exciting Giveaway for you this week from one of my favorite lines Deborah Lippman.  To ENTER leave a comment (scroll back up to top of page and click on the comment icon at top right) (between Friday June 18 and Monday June 21) telling me what sunglass style you’ll be rockin’ this summer.  1 Lucky reader will win a Bottle of “Supermodel”the shade created with model Dree Hemingway!
