How to Rework Last Season’s Scarf Prints

Scarf Print Trend

They’re baaacckkkk!

Scarf prints are making an encore performance for Fall 2019 which is great news for your wallet because you can totally rework the scarf print pieces you already invested in last Fall!

In case you missed this trend the first time around a scarf print is usually a mix of paisley, chains, and sometimes even florals. Think about Versace’s iconic 1990s prints.

Typically on a silk or silk-like fabric it encompasses classical architecture and historical motifs, hanky hemlines and flowy silhouettes which channel a scarf-like effect that creates an opulent feel.

It’s a print that makes you feel oh-so-bougie in a GOOD way and look as though you are stylish AF.

Several fashion houses such as Burberry, Gucci, Versace and Chanel are channeling their love for nostalgia through scarf prints by creating what has been dubbed as “archive prints” this season.  Archive prints are basically prints resurrected from the designs of days gone by.

This nod to yesteryear not only cerebrates the history and tradition of the house by bringing some of their biggest hits back to life it also gives the Fall 2019 collections a unique retro feel, almost as though each piece is a hidden gem discovered in a vintage shop.

Dressing like a Bougie Girl is kind of the “biggest” thing this season which makes scarf prints prime real estate and reworking your older pieces a breeze.

Last season it was all about wearing that scarf print head-to-toe but this time around think giant scarves tied in bows around your neck worn with an English Tweed suit, silky scarf print skirts paired with a classic boucle jacket and retro Parisian style scarf print dresses adorned with brassy gold buttons.

Although it’s still a bit too hot to go full blown fall with it, you can start to incorporate your scarf prints now and sprinkling them into your summer repertoire by pairing with easy peasant blouses and ooh-la-la neck scarves to create that French peasant girl effect then when things cool down bouge it up a bit by adding those heavier fabrics.

The Scarf Print Trend That is Everywhere

Vintage-inspired scarves and silky scarf-like prints were all over the fall/winter ’18 runways and one show in particular threw down the gauntlet and said the Scarf Print Trend is this season’s “it” trend.

British designer Richard Quinn set Instagram on fire with his FW nineties-inspired scarf print collection.

With Queen Elizabeth II and Anna Wintor sitting front row, models stepped out in Majesty-inspired head scarfs, trench-coats fashioned from silk scarf squares and asymmetric dresses emblazoned with the Balmoral-appropriate print.

Within a matter of minutes (ok maybe it was more like days) fashion influencers took to social media to take the trend for a spin IRL.  The vibe is one part modern maximalism and one part grandma,  a juxtaposition that is right up my alley.

Inspired by the iconic designs of Hermes you can find these stunning scarf prints EVERYWHERE making it super easy to score the trend no matter what your budget from vintage pieces to designer, high-street and fast fashion.

It’s almost impossible NOT to spot a scarf print.  All it takes is one fashion savvy look around to see it, a quick scroll through your Instagram feed or standing in line at Zara- seriously while I was in line the other day I counted 17 women in line with me buying scarf print items.

It’s an easy trend to embrace too — printed silk shirts and dresses are about as forgiving as fashion gets and as long as you stick to the same color palette mixing scarf prints is as simple as pairing those Garanimals you wore as a kid.
