Vintage Prints Meet Spring/Summer 2021

Vintage prints are the BIZ for Spring/Summer 2021.

It was about this time last year when I made a fashion prediction.  Channeling my inner Nostradamus my post “Quarantine and the Resurgence of Vintage Fabrics” stated that we would see a HUGE influx of vintage inspired fabrics and prints this season.

.. And here we are, vintage prints EVERYWHERE!

With florals, surf and postcard prints in everything, it’s pretty obvious fashion is having a printastic love affair with days gone by.

Designers have given vintage florals a contemporary twist in the form of exploded and oversized blooms set on contrasting backgrounds. These new floral prints feature and illustrated retro quality. Think vintage drapery patterns.

It’s an overall nostalgic feel that could most definitely be the result of us all doing deep dives into our parents and grandparents closets over the past year.  These quarantine vintage treasures set in motion a boom in not only vintage/thrift shopping but also deadstock fabrics and retro inspired prints.

Flowers aren’t the only thing getting a vintage makeover. Nostalgia for vacations (oh how we have missed those) is also a print prevalent theme through prints that harken back to 1950’s Hawaiian surf culture and chic Cote d’Azure vacations.

Whether it’s a retro tropical infusion or a refined floral vintage aesthetic these prints in light breezy fabrics are here to set the mood for Spring/Summer 2021 and it’s looking pretty sunny!

With the energy and lightness of the season in mind you can’t help but feel it when you put these pieces on.

My Latest Obsession Chukka Boots

Hush Puppies Chukka Boot

There’s a misconception that makes the rounds this time of year, one that says boots are something you should only wear during the colder months. But that’s not true!

Boots are something you can rock year-round, it’s all in how you style them and the type of boot you choose.

You’re probably eager to shed those winter layers right about now to welcome in Spring. But, don’t ditch the idea of boots just yet. Ankle boots are a trusty accessory that will easily transition into spring.

Borrowing from the boys (aka rockin’ menswear) has always been a styling go-to of mine and one of my favorite “borrowing form the boys” finds are Chukka Boots.

Chukka Boots are an ankle-high design leather boot with either suede or smooth leather uppers and a rubber or leather sole. It’s known for its distinct two or three eyelets lace-up design and comfortable fit.

The name Chukka comes from the game of Polo (a chukka is a 7 and a half minute period of play).  Some say it’s because the boots resemble the riding boots worn by Polo Players. Others say it’s because Polo Players preferred to slip them on after a game. They were way more comfortable than their riding boots.  As fans saw the players walking around town wearing these comfortable boots they came to call them Chukka’s.

Chukkas are kind of like the sneakers of the boot world. You can wear them almost anytime, anywhere and they are so dang comfy!

I am OBSESSED with Hush Puppies Bailey Chukka Boot.

This beauty comes in 16 gorgeous shades! From bright and bold to earthy and grounded there is a hue for every look.

Made with WorryFree™ water-resistant materials they stay looking new longer and feet stay dry. Their Bounce™ footbed provides energy rebound with every step and retains its cushioning for all day comfort! Plus they are totally versatile.  Pair them with a sweet cottagecore look for that “strolling through a field” aesthetic or with 90s inspired cuffed jeans and a tee for a laid back cool vibe. The options are really endless!

How are you going to rock your Chukkas this Spring?

So Thirsty: Aperol Spritz Inspired Outfit

Aperol Spritz Inspired Outfit

For some crazy reason I have been craving an Aperol Spritz in a bad way.  Like not just craving but obsessing about sipping one.

I wake up thinking about it, I spend the day fantasizing about it and at night my dreams are filled with Aperol Spritz fantasies. I have no idea where this sudden hankering came from- I’m usually more of a tequila based drink kind of gal- but it’s here and it won’t let up.

I’m so thirsty that my outfits are even starting to resemble and Aperol Spritz.

If you haven’t tried one before, I highly recommend you give it a sip.  The orange-red cocktail is reminiscent of an Italian soda and combines just three ingredients: Aperol, Prosecco and soda water.

As pretty to drink as it is to look at, an Aperol Spritz is pleasantly citrusy, perfectly bubbly, slightly bitter and the orangey hue is an instant mood booster. You need absolutely NO bar skills to make a spritz.  It’s so easy!

Aperol Spritz

  • 2 oz Prosecco – Can’t find any? Don’t like Prosecco? Use Champagne or Cremant de Loire instead for a dry taste, or Moscato d-Asti if you want a sweeter flavor.
  • 2 oz Aperol – The namesake of the recipe!
  • A Splash of Soda – Soda water or sparkling water. Feel free to use flavored sparkling water, ideally citrus, for some extra flavor.
  • Orange – Freshly sliced for garnish. I like blood oranges because of their deep rich beautiful color.

Fill a wine glass with ice. Add the Prosecco first, then Aperol, and finally soda. Stir gently and garnish with a fresh orange wheel.

We finally made our weekly grocery trip and I scored a bottle of Aperol!  Whoo Hoo!  I’ll be mixing these babies up on Easter morning for a two person boozy brunch with my hubby and I’ll be wearing this Aperol Spritz inspired outfit.

Cheers!
