Fashion Color Challenge

Although it feels like months, we are almost two weeks into the Las Vegas Lockdown.

Our Governor set a 30 day closure on all non-essential businesses as of noon on March 18th (although my freelance jobs started cancelling about a week before that). Casinos closed for the first time in HISTORY! Yes, for the first time in it’s 75 year plus gaming history Las Vegas casinos went dark. I never thought I would see that! The roads are empty, hair salons, malls and bars have all closed their doors. Schools are vacant and lines to get supplies are insane at places like Target and COSTCO.

At first I was checking my phone and the news every hour for updates on the state of things but now I have limited myself to a once a day update because it was causing too much stress and anxiety. I wash my hands like a fiend, douse myself in hand sanitizer, wear rubber gloves if I have to run to the store (I don’t have a mask because you can’t find them anywhere) and open any packages outside then spray the contents with Lysol before bringing them inside.

This is our crazy new normal and we have to settle into it for awhile.

Settling into the new normal doesn’t mean sinking into a bra-less life of no-makeup and a curated collection of lounge sets- although the ads on my Instagram feed would have you thinking otherwise. Seriously, is anyone else’s feed a who’s who of ads for sweatpants and lounge set manufacturers?

I think we all need a little escape from the “Rona” and what better escape than fashion! This week I want to do a little fashion-psychology experiment and I need your help!

My fashion color challenge is to see how color affects your mood this week.

Artists, fashion and interior designers have long believed that color can dramatically affect moods, feelings, and emotions.

“Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions,” -Pablo Picasso

Color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood, manage stress levels and even influence physiological reactions. Certain colors have been associated with increased blood pressure, increased metabolism, and eyestrain.

I want you to pick a different color to wear each day for the next five days and let me know how each made you feel.

MONDAY wear YELLOW: This is the happiest of all the colors and stimulates joy.

TUESDAY wear BLUE: This is the color of truth and wisdom. It has a calming effect and is linked to intellect. It’s also the most stable color which makes you feel grounded.

WEDNESDAY wear GREEN: This color denotes freshness, safety and harmony. A feeling of being at one with nature.

THURSDAY wear PURPLE: Purple reminds people of royalty and luxury. It’s also the color of magic. This will give you that dash of “extra” you’ve been missing since the lockdown.

FRIDAY wear ORANGE: Orange is a color of stimulation and enthusiasm. Orange is a nice mix of red’s passion and yellow’s joy. Research has found that orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an energizing effect, and stimulates brain activity.

Stuart Weitzman SS18 Collection

Most of the buzz lately surrounding footwear brand Stuart Weitzman has been the SS18 ad campaign.

The campaign has made fashion history by featuring Gigi Hadid and Kate Moss, photographed together for the very first time. Shot by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino, the images capture two iconic supermodels embodying the brand’s multi-generational appeal while showcasing the essential silhouettes of the season.

I, of course, wanted to get a first hand peek at the collection so I popped over to the Stuart Weitzman boutique at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and it’s even better than I imagined.

The Stuart Weitzman SS18 Collection marks Creative Director Giovanni Morelli’s second collection with the brand. Morelli is the first person other than Mr. Weitzman himself to helm the accessories brand in its 32-year history.

For me it’s the beginning of an exciting new era for Stuart Weitzman. Still holding true to their iconic classic style yet in an updated, refreshed and refined way.

The collection was inspired by the architectural sensibility of sensual curves and focuses on texture and details. Curve details make a showing in everything from heels to straps, hardware and silhouettes.

Opulent satins, buttery nappas, suedes, exotic snakeskin and crystal embellishments highlight texture and flow effortlessly through the collection creating unusual pairings that are works of art- like the satin straps on the Botanical Jacquard pieces. Two fabrics that on paper don’t work but when brought together on a shoe are pure summer magic!

Floral details are a recurring motif throughout the collection blossoming in every category from edgy metallic rose stud details on slides to pretty ladylike hand painted florals on python pointy toes and sandals. How gorgeous are these!

Bold Vibrant Color is key for S/S 2018 and there is no shortage of that in this collection. There is an entire wall dedicated to the season’s hottest love story: Pink and red.

..and then it was love at first sight. My handbag loving heart skipped a beat when my eyes met this beauty, The Petite Harness.

Crafted from satin it’s a modernist take on the backpack. It features a foldover compartment with an interior pocket. Its front satin sash is detachable. Wear it with a gown for luxe contrast or pair with trousers for a street-wear chic vibe. The styling possibilities with this unique beauty are endless!

Spring Fashion Trends with Neiman Marcus

Last week I hosted a fabulous Influencer Fashion Happy Hour at Neiman Marcus for their CUSP event.

What happen’s when you get 25 fashion influencers in a room? Well, we sipped on stunning rainbow martini’s from the Mariposa Cafe, snacked on delish aperitif’s and of course chatted about the most Instagram worthy trends of the season.

It all comes down to Stripes, Rainbows, Bold Color, Florals and Glitter. For Spring Summer 2018 it’s time to bring out that Happy Happy Joy Joy!

This season reach for the brightest, boldest, most eye-catching Stripes you can find! Re-imagined and refreshed Spring 2018 offers a fun and playful take on the classic pattern. Stripes in both bold colors and rainbow iterations hit the mark for SS18.

Look at the World through rose, or sunny yellow or baby blue colored glasses. Soft Sunnies, aka colored tinted lens sunglasses are EVERYTHING this season. Whether you rock aviators, shields, wayfarers or over-sized sunnies, this season it’s not so much about the silhouette as it is the shade you are viewing the world through.

Bright, bold optimistic colors in a rainbow of saturated mood boosting shades paired with Spring’s classic Floral Prints make for an eye catching combo to brighten your outlook.

You’re da Bomb: Why Bomber Jackets make the Perfect Spring Layering Piece

Bomber jackets have been having a moment or two… or three the past few seasons but they are still on trend and on the shoulders of the most fashionable for Spring 2018.

I don’t know about you but I’m not ready to give up on my perfectly posh security blanket of layering quite yet. We are in that “in-between” season where a coat is way too hot but you still need a bit of coverage.

Bomber jackets make the perfect spring layering piece. Light and airy and oh so statement making they provide just enough coverage to achieve that layered look without feeling as though you are having a hot flash!

Stylish and versatile, bombers also serve as an accent piece to add a little edge and contrast to an evening look and they help to create a “full look” when added to casual pieces.

Whether worn over-sized and boyfriend style with arms rolled up or shrunken and cropped to give a ’90s-vibe, these guys work just as well with a slinky dress as they do with a pair of distressed jeans PLUS they are super comfortable which is always a win.

Brand-new or vintage, designer or high-street there is a bomber jacket out there for you. Look for styles that have embroidery, sequins, patches or detailing on the back. Details that make the jacket unique and special.

Spring Trendspotting at Las Vegas Premium Outlets North

I am a sucker for a designer outlet.

I remember the days when the only outlet shopping to be found was by driving a gazillion miles away, uphill both ways in the snow..LOL. We would plan outlet shopping day-trips, but thankfully now you can find them located conveniently close to home.

Designer Outlets offer past season merchandise, re-issued popular styles from previous seasons using materials the designer already had and pieces that may have been labeled incorrectly or that arrived late to mainline stores and missed their retail window. Some brands even make pieces exclusively for their outlet stores.

Hunting for a good bargain really get’s my juices flowing and I get some of my best deals at The Las Vegas Premium Outlets North.

Nestled close to Downtown Las Vegas, The Las Vegas Premium Outlets North with over 40 acres of shopping and designer brands like Ted Baker, ETRO, Kate Spade, Dolce & Gabbana, Tory Burch, AllSaints, Marc Jacobs, John Varvatos and more! I have found some of my most treasured steals there! DENIM

Dark or light, acid washed or selvedged, cropped, flared, skinny or straight leg however you do denim it’s a must have for Spring 2018. Pairing denim with denim used to be a no-no but for Spring 2018 you can go head-to-toe. This trend looks best when you vary the shades/washes of your denim to create depth. My all time favorite cuts and best fits are from AG Jeans and this store is packed literally wall-to-wall with every fit imaginable so its easy to fall in love.

GRAPHICS AND PATCHES

A bevy of graphic and patch laden designs, as seen on the streets flooded the runways this season. The trend’s not limited just to souvenir bombers and emblazoned denim styles anymore; now we see artful graphics on everything from bags to backpacks, sneakers and evening wear. I am OBSESSED with this collection from Marc Jacobs. For this Hippie Dippy Collection the designer collaborated with Julie Verhoeven, the multi-talented British artist who created art for Kate Moss and Primal Scream’s single, as well as for Nouvelle Vague. Her patchwork prints including pills, spray paint cans, rocket ships with tongues and eerily unblinking eyes adorn sweatshirts, jackets, tote bags, and box clutches throughout the collection, adding a dark kind of wonderful whimsy. The collection is almost impossible to find anywhere except at the Marc Jacobs boutique at the Premium Outlets North!

FLORAL

The old Spring perennial, floral prints are everywhere this season. Whether they’re in a patchwork effect, printed, embroidered or painted, this botanical trend is in bloom for Spring/Summer 2018. Ted Baker always has the best uber girly Spring-tastic florals that look like they came straight out of the pages of a story book. Right now all Dresses are an additional 30% off the already low outlet price!

BOLD COLOR

For Spring 2018 Bright, bold optimistic colors flooded the runways in a rainbow of saturated mood boosting shades. If you need an instant dose of happy all you have to do is open the doors of the Las Vegas Premium Outlet North’s DVF Boutique to grab the rainbow. Seriously these colors are everything!

SPARKLE and a bit of Whimsy

Glitter, Glitz and Holograms are IT this season and no one does the perfect blend of glitz and glam like Kate Spade. These fusha hologram effect bags and gorgeous glittery chain strap bag are the PERFECT pop of color to brighten any look this season! I also found these perfect for summer camel graphic bags- aren’t they adorbs!
