Sure, summer looks a little different this year but we are a resourceful bunch and we will have our day (or days) in the sun.

Whether your plans include the perfect social distanced vacation with an all-in camping/lake getaway, taking a mental-break day trip to the beach or relaxing by catching a few rays in your own backyard you’ll want to look and feel your best. After all that’s what summer is all about. Keep your cool and soak up those feel-good sunny vibes!

So what are the “cool” kids wearing this summer?  The biggest trend is functionality. Pieces that serve dual purposes. High-tech fabrics and innovative designs. Things that are not only fashionable but lightweight, soft, breathable, have stretch, are moisture-wicking, fast drying and cooling.

When you think of “summer” clothing, nothing says “summer” like Tommy Bahama. From beach to backyard and everywhere in between for over 25 years Tommy Bahama has inspired the world to relax in style while embracing the world around them.

I stopped into Tommy Bahama at Fashion Show to curate the ultimate summer must-have list that will help you keep your cool while looking totally hot!

The Unexpected Summer Trend Everyone is Talking About: The Hawaiian Shirt

Hawaiian Shirt Trend

We live in an era of dad (and mom) approved clothing trends. First it was the dad hat then the mom jeans, dad hat and now there’s a new item to add to the list and I have to admit, I’m not mad about it, the Hawaiian Shirt.

Think tacky tourist, but make it fashion. It’s about embracing that vintage feel but reworking it to feel fresh.

Hawaiian shirts have been spotted on celebs from Justin Beiber (who wear his in heavy rotation) to Miley Cyrus and Emma Roberts.

This chill, laid-back, classic boxy cut, dad-on-vacation staple is now a must-have for both guys AND gals this summer season. Designer Richard Quinn included a cool boxy Hawaiian-print satin shirt with beaded embroidered flowers in his Spring 2019 runway collection. There were classic Hawaiian vacay vibes at Balenciaga, quirky-cool Hawaiian shirt looks at Dries Van Noten and retro Hawaiian Shirt inspired pieces at Gucci.

Although the bold, flashy Fear and Loathing in Vegasesc prints may be intimating at first, the trick is to edge it up.

Hawaiian shirts are actually super versatile and can be worn a ton of different ways. Pair one with something slim like a pencil skirt for a polished take or tie a Hawaiian shirt in a knot in the front to give it a cropped beachy effect and pair with some distressed  jeans.  Give it a 1/2 tuck into some easy paper bag shorts to ooze that model-off-duty mood or go retro-chic and pair it with a effortless flowy  maxi skirt.

Whether new or vintage, designer or high street the key to rocking the Hawaiian Shirt Trend is to make sure your Hawaiian Shirt has that classic boxy cut.

Bold Tropical Print Trend

Bold Tropical Print Trend

Tropical prints are taking over this summer in a bold explosion of color and a lush mix of flora and fauna.

Women want to look and feel sexy and feminine while having fun in the sun.  We want color and daring but in the most effortless way possible. This is what the bold tropical print trend is all about.

Not only does it remind you of an exotic getaway, tropical prints also add instant style and fun to even the simplest outfits.

Go head-to-toe tropical in a dress, romper or jumper or scale it back by wearing just one tropical print piece paired with a neutral. If you’re feeling bold, experiment with mixing tropical prints with other prints. Fruits, vegetables, floral, animal prints and stripes all look amazing against a tropical pattern.  If you’re hoping to find a more subtle way to incorporate the look into your current wardrobe, add a pop of print with patterned shoes or accessories — anything goes with this wild trend!
