Mistaken Lyrics Coasters

We all have that one friend. No matter how many times you correct them, they will always belt out “Hold me closer, Tony Danza.” Embrace the hilarity of getting the lyrics to “Tiny Dancer” and other songs so wrong with these clever coasters. The cork designs come in two styles: classic rock and greatest hits. Classic rock includes hits like “I Wanna Hold Your Ham.” And then there are the greatest hits, with tunes like “Hit Me With Your Pet Shark.” Each set of six laugh-out-loud coasters makes a memorable housewarming or “just because” gift. Our suggestion: Use them to spark a round of mistaken lyrics karaoke.

Fun fact: This odd (and hysterical) phenomena has a name. The word “mondegreen” originates from a misheard bit of an old Scottish ballad.

And yes, and they are also free from alcohol. All this makes the wine gums more accessible for those with allergies, or if you don’t drink alcohol. Pro tip- they taste really great when you eat them while drinking wine!

Holly Dolly Christmas

Holly Dolly Christmas

For as long as I can remember I have been a Dolly Parton fan.

As a child I thought she was completely magical with her sweet Southern twang and perfectly over-the-top outfits. I would watch 9 to 5 and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas on repeat while putting on full performances of the music from each on my parent fireplace (it was like a stage). No matter where my musical tastes landed throughout the years- from new wave to punk to SKA and even beach goth- Dolly was always there singing her sweet songs and words of encouragement about “being myself”.

This year has been a big one for Dolly. She released a new holiday album “Holly Dolly Christmas” (her first in 30 years!), a new cookware collection at Williams-Sonoma, a NETFLIX musical “Christmas on the Square”, a CBS Christmas special, an epic DVD collection, a biopic hardcover coffee table book AND helping to fund a COVID vaccine. It’s like the universe knew we’d all need a little more Dolly Parton light in the darkness that has been 2020.

The pop culture icon has been dishing out much needed warm-and-fuzzy holiday feelings in a year where everyone seems to need an extra helping of holiday cheer.

If you are on the hunt for the perfect mood-boosting holiday gift, chances are a Dolly-themed present is just the ticket when it comes to a smile-inducing, 100-percent-appreciated Christmas present. (Click to SHOP my favorites at the end of this post).

While you’re spreading the joy, consider making a donation to the Dolly’s Imagination Library, the country queen’s nonprofit that has gifted more than 150 million free books to children around the globe.

Let’s turn up the light, crank up the sound and have a Holly Dolly Christmas.

How to Wear a Sweater Vest

How to wear a sweater vest

One of the many things we can thank Alessandro Michele of Gucci for is the return of the sweater vest.

Gucci singlehandedly brought about the rise of “grandma” chic which entire genre of fashion.  This new genre embraces clever eccentricity with a lived-in vintage feel.

As every fashion person knows, everything old is new again and this season it’s all about the sweater vest.

Thanks to intricate patterns and oversized silhouettes, these luxe sweater vests feel especially modern yet vintage at the same time.

The vests satisfy a trifecta of trends. Think winterizing a Cottagecore look or a sleek uptown vibe when worn with a button-down shirt. Rock it like an off duty model with nothing underneath or like a minimalist when styled in neutral hues with a turtleneck. Honestly you can toss them over almost anything and it works! They add serious style cred to non-binary looks and offer up a bevy of silhouettes from oversized and loose to cropped and boxy or fabulously fitted.

If you’re considering adding one to your wardrobe arsenal, there are plenty of unique one-of-a-kind versions to be found in vintage shops, interesting designer interpretations and fun high street takes on the trend.

Pinecones Foraging for Holiday Decor

Pinecones Foraging for Holiday Decor

I love using natural elements to decorate for the holidays. Not only is it cost effective but it also creates a cool rustic vibe.

Foraging for decor can be so fun (remember collecting seashells as a kid?) and one of the easiest things to forage is pinecones.

Whether you display them au naturel in a bowl, paint them with glitter or add essentials oils to give them that “holiday” scent, pinecones are a key element for Winter decorations. But before you go turning those conifer cuties into a tree ornament, your pinecones need to be treated to remove them of their sticky resin residue, icky bugs and to allow their layers to open up beautifully. This is particularly important if you are planning to use them in tablescape projects.  Bugs and food- no no no!

The best way to get your pinecones ready is to bake them. Baking your pine cones on a low temperature for about 45 minutes will keep your Christmas free from unwanted pests. Once the pinecones have opened up and the sap has had a chance to seep out and dry up, the pinecones are done.

The process is REALLY easy and it makes your house smell AMAZING.

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°.
  2. Line your baking sheet(s) with foil. It is likely some sap will drip and you’ll want an easy clean up.
  3. Arrange your pinecones on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  4. Bake for about 45 minutes.
  5. Keep a close eye on the oven so that you don’t burn them.
  6. You will see the sap collect below some of the pinecones.
  7. After 45 minutes, remove from over and place on a towel or cooling rack until cool.

Whimsical and Wonderful Holiday Gifts at Sugarboo & Co.

Sugarboo Holiday Gifting

Christmas is just around the corner, so if you haven’t gotten any gifts yet, it’s time to get shopping.

When it comes to buying gifts, thoughtfulness always weighs more than the gift itself. I yearn for handmade, unique gifts that will inspire heartfelt joy- the kind you would find in an old timey Christmas Market which is why Sugarboo & Co, at the Grand Canal Shoppes inside the Venetian Resort is one of my favorite holiday shopping spots.

Sugarboo & Co.  is the brainchild of artist Rebecca Puig.  The name Sugarboo is the nickname she calls her children- the idea was to create products that remind us of the ones we love. Her inspirations are her family, nature, animals, children’s art and folk art. She loves juxtaposing old and new, light and dark, serious subject matter with fluff and anything with a message. Rebecca believes in putting good out into the world whenever possible. Her hope is that each Sugarboo piece we send out into the world will add a little good.

The shop has a rustic farmhouse feel and is packed full of Rebecca’s curated collection of inspirational and playful art, unique vintage-inspired gifts, and luxury accessories that are handcrafted with an interesting mixture of love, passion, skill, and nostalgic flair.

Each piece is filled with whimsy, a special one-of-a-kind feel, and a mix of modern and vintage design.

I stopped in last week to do some Christmas shopping and wanted to share some of my top Sugarboo & Co. gifting picks with you.

Wise Words to Warm the Soul

One of my favorite things about Sugarboo & Co.’s merch is their sweet messages and the words of wisdom they tout.

Sugarboo & Co. Wine Bags

Nothing warms the heart quite like holiday “spirits”.

These adorable canvas wine bags are the perfect way to give bottled holiday cheer.

Gathered Thoughts Jar

One thing we have all learned this year is to be grateful for what we have.  This Gathered Thoughts Jar is a great gift for a family or couple.

The concept is simple. Pay attention to your life. Look for the good all around you- all the blessings, beauty, gratitude, hopes, dreams, adventures, love, kindness, and magical bits of life. Record it. You don’t have to get fancy – jot it down on scraps of paper, receipts, old ticket stubs, & don’t dilly dally. Do it now – at coffee shops & mountaintops, in trains, planes, and automobiles. Deposit all your beautiful, magical, good stuff in this jar. At the end of the year empty out your jar to celebrate all the ordinary and extraordinary parts of life that made you stop & pay attention.

Sugarboo Zip Bag

I am all about sustainable wrapping which is just one of the reasons I LOVE these Canvas Zip Bags.

You can use them as wrapping by filling them with any gift then later they become a makeup pouch, pencil case, cord holder or organizer!

When it comes to finding ways to unwind, for some, writing is even more calming than meditation.

There’s nothing quite like taking the time for your own mental health and clearing your mind by putting your own thoughts on a page. Whether you’re a designer, a writer, or a creative professional, you need a place to jot down your thoughts and these gorgeous hand dyed leather journals filled with handmade paper are worthy of your brilliant ideas!

Holiday Themed Gifts

 Sugarboo Holiday Gifts

When I was a child my mom handmade all of our tree ornaments out of felt so naturally, I am a sucker for felt ornaments. They bring back childhood Christmas magic for me. I fell in LOVE and may be completely obsessed with these adorable felt ornaments. Each ornament is handmade and features icons like: David Bowie, Willie Nelson, Ronaldo (soccer), Louis Armstrong, Elton John, Elvis, Dolly Parton, Jerry Garcia, Diana Ross, Bob Marley and more! (David Bowie and Willie Nelson are sitting pretty on my tree right now).

Elf Pad.

This is such a cute companion for an Elf on the Shelf.  Leave these cute little letters from Santa & His Elves as a daily note for your littles.

Cuppa Cheer!

Fun holiday themed coffee mugs are always a great gift.  I like to fill them with a little Irish Coffee starter kit-a “roadie” size bottle of booze and a candy cane.

If you are looking for unique and thoughtful gifts you HAVE to stop in and check out Sugarboo & Co. for yourself.  They make crossing off your list so fun and easy!

Sure, you probably aren’t having a HUGE family/friends gathering, and some of your family members might be a little farther away […]

According to FUNDRA the U.S. alone has 12.3 million women-owned businesses which generate $1.8 TRILLION a year! That’s a lot of successful ladies out there! New Perspective on Over...

Sometimes, like everything else in life you need to look at your wardrobe from a new perspective. As a stylist I always try to look at fashion in fresh, new and interesting ways- jackets worn on just the shoulders, tops buttoned off kilter, shirts worn under dresses and sometimes even clothing worn backwards or upside […]

Chef Sam Marvin Talks T...

The best part of Turkey Day is the Day-After-Thanksgiving leftovers. The Day-After-Thanksgiving is like a second holiday and it’s the fuel before Black Friday shopping—or recovery afterward. We all know leftovers are one of the fan-favorites of Turkey Day, and I think most people can agree that having a fridge full of leftovers is the […]
