Valentine’s Day Rose Water Gin Fizz

Valentine's Day Rose Water Gin Fizz

Another approaching holiday calls for another cocktail recipe, and since it’s the season of love I have whipped one up that is effortlessly romantic.

What says Valentine’s Day more than roses? The use of roses, rose water specifically, in cocktails has become a favorite secret floral note of mixologists over the past year.

Rose water is a non alcoholic ingredient distilled from rose petals.  Rosewater is a product of the distillation of rose petals. The raw distillate of rose petals is really a layer of oil known as rose attar that is typically used in perfumes floating on top of a water layer, which is the actual rosewater.

With a provocative aroma, rosewater brings a distinctive floral character to a drink. It can give a cocktail’s “bouquet” a literal meaning. But while you may LOVE the brilliant-colored flowers by the dozens, when adding rose water to a cocktail is requires a delicate touch- most recipes include just a small amount- trust me a little goes a long way- this stuff can be very strong.

This Valentine’s Day Rose Gin Fizz is a gin-based cocktail with pomegranate juice, sparkling water and a splash of rosewater.  The sweet tone of the pomegranate juice and the floral notes of rose water are a perfect complement to an herbaceous gin.
