Fall Trend: Denim Skirts

Denim Skirt trend

If there’s one thing that will 100% never go out of style, it’s denim.

Denim is a timeless staple and you’d be hard-pressed to find a designer who didn’t include denim somewhere in their fall collection. Taking center stage for Fall 2019 is one of my favorite denim iterations: the denim skirt.

From prairie silhouettes to fitted pencil skirts, retro A-lines and button-front mini’s denim skirts are set to have a HUGE presence this season.

Designer’s have been having a love affair with the ’90s the past few seasons and Fall 2019 is no different. Get ready for an onset of deliciously vintage denim styles this fall. Think lived-in denim skirts with a ’90s vibe. Printed floral denim, high slit denim skirts, two tone denim, double denim (denim on denim looks) and logo laden denim.

With so many denim skirt choices out there it makes it super easy to rock this trend no matter what your age or body shape! Dress them up or dress them down- you’ll be amazed at how versatile this classic is.  Pair a denim pencil skirt with a sparkly blouse and heels for a night out, rock a denim mini with a loose easy band tee and boots for a cool model-off-duty vibe or pair a denim prairie skirt with a scarf print blouse and western belt for an easy boho feel.  The options are endless.

My advice when shopping the denim skirt trend is to look for pieces that not only have a great fit but are also “special” or unique. Make sure your denim skirt stands out from crowd with fun details like printed denim, coated denim, colored denim, patchwork details, embroidery, fringed hems, ombre effects, side stripes and slit fronts.

Extra like Guac but Better

Think of accessories and details like the salsa and guac that's takes your clothing to the next level.

One huge lesson I have learned in my years as a Fashion Stylist is how important the details are.

I’m talking about accessories. These “extras” are the flavors, the spices and the fragrances that distinguish one look from another.

Tortilla chips are just tortilla chips alone right?  But, if you add some salsa and quac, BOOM they become something so much more!

You and I could be wearing the exact same outfit, but the details we add to our looks can make those clothes appear totally different from one another.  And our different personal styles would be visible – it would be obvious what my personal style is, and what yours is just through the accessories.

That’s pretty incredible right!

Without these “extras” getting dressed would be so dull. They add excitement, color and are the perfect way to incorporate the seasons current trends.

You can change accessories to match your mood- bright and sunny or dark and edgy, change them for function- sneakers and a belt bag for running around the city or heels and a clutch for a night out OR change them for the climate- a heavy coat and boots for winter or a light layer and sandals for Spring.

Think of accessories and details like the salsa and guac that takes your clothing to the next level.

Accessories are the difference that makes all the difference.  It is in these small details that style can be found.  And that style may be subtle, or it may be blaringly obvious, or somewhere in between.  It’s all up to you.

Not only will the right accessories bring your look together they also provide visual interest and create versatility to change up the look and vibe of some of your favorite pieces.

I’ve shown you this skirt before with a scarf print top and a luxe Chanel topcoat but by paring it with western boots, a western bag, rugged belt, spice hued tights and a vintage suede jacket it’s entire vibe changed from 70s retro chic to boho-western inspired.

My challenge to get you fashion-inspired for Spring is to play with some “extras”. Experiment with accessories and watch how they transform your everyday look.  Snap a pic and tag me on Instagram- I would love to see what you create!
