Summer is here and for us “dark” clothing wearers our closets are in need of a little color. I am a 90% of my closet is black kind of girl with a layering addiction that won’t quit which for a Las Vegas summer isn’t the best choice.
And so, my fellow “black is the new black” mantra holding gals, our summer search begins for clothing that we can still look stylish in without dying of heat exhaustion and that adds just enough color so that we don’t look like an out of place resort- vampire.
I thought I would knock out two of summers hottest trends that you can still feel cool in with one post: Culottes and Mixed Blues.
Culottes were on just about every runway for Spring- there is no denying they are a hot trend. I have had mixed feeling about them though, done the right way Culottes can look like effortless resort chic but done the wrong way they look like a frumpy, stumpy mess. They are super comfortable and light weight which lands them high on the comfort scale but they can tend to chop your silhouette making your legs look out of proportion. To do Culottes the right ways make sure to pair them with a wedge or a heeled sandal so that you can still maintain some semblance of length to your silhouette.
Blue is all the rage in the fashion community for the now and the upcoming seasons. You will see it in everything from mens AND womens fashions to accessorizes and cosmetics. The “IT” blue isn’t just navy but the entire color spectrum of blues from Electric Blue to Sapphire Blue, Cornflower Blue, Lapis and Indigo. The trend is all about mixing them with the goal of achieving a balanced palette. Combine vibrant and bold blues with softer more mutes ones for a perfect on-trend look.
Try adding a pop of color to your blues with a sultry summer red. I like rich, fresh orangey and tomato reds for summer. They are vibrant and deliver a statement making punch that pairs flawlessly with mixed blues.
