Denim is always on trend, but for spring/summer 2019 the trend is all washed out!
Fashion’s favorite material, denim has once again been reinvented. On the runways designers showcased washed out denim used in everything from jeans to denim jackets, shirts, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits and boiler-suits.
There were even plenty of “Canadian tuxedos”, i.e. jeans paired with a denim jacket, head-to-toe denim and layered looks using different denim tones to create depth but the key to really nailing the Spring 2019 denim trend is to think “lived-in”.
Whether it’s torn, embroidered, donned with patches, worn out, crumpled, hand painted, or cracked, this season exit the pristine and brand-new, think used and custom-made.
I’ve always described my “type” of guy as looking “slightly used” but not stinky… lol… I like them a little worn in, not too clean cut, maybe distressed around the edges and with a little customization (tattoos) think of this season’s denim as my type of guy.
Add your own personal touch to oversized denim jackets, loose-legged jeans and denim cargo pants in bleached-out, or even tie-dye, washes in the form of patches, buttons, embroidery, paint and distressed hems. Show off your love for 90s nostalgia and you’ll hit two key trends in one swoop!
It’s easy to incorporate this trend into your own personal style by simply substituting a lighter wash denim where you would normally wear a darker one. Just remember the vibe should feel beachy and a little lived-in. The lighter the shade the better!
